1500! all done!

hi all,
i've not been a regular contributor but this site has benefited me a lot. i am glad the hurdle that was the gre is over and i can get back to my life!
i was very apprehensive about the exam and nervous to the core.
the issue task was alright. however the argument was a near disaster. i realised i completely misunderstood the argument and i had 9 minutes left. i was panicking big time but managed to change all the paras around by the time was up.
i took the 10 min break to calm my nerves. next was verbal. everything was smooth sailing till i got hit with a rc. i;m sure i messed it up. towards the last 5 minutes i had 8 to 9 questions left and i started panicking! however i answered each of them quickly and i think accurately...the mind has a way of racing and thinking fast in pressure driven situations!
the last was the quant section. i was quite calm and ready to begin after the verbal. i really just wanted to get it over with by then. i was pacing myself quite well uptil the 20th question or so. after that i started taking a bit too long on certain questions. i had 2 minutes left for 4 questions. and i'm quite sure i goofed up the last two or atelast the last one.
i was extremely happy to see my scores: quant 800 verbal 700. my biggest fears was that i'd have to give it again.
i did get a research question after the quant section which i attempted.

my test preparation materials included barrons: this should be your bible for the verbal especailly. it really helped me, kaplan-mainly the cd prep material. and powerprep.

i think the key to doing well is to stay calm. when approached with the right attitude i think anyone can do well as long as u put in the required prep. i learnt it the hard way...i wish i had remained more calm about the whole experience. it would have saved my mind from a lot of worry and anxiety.

congrats Sefi ......great score!

I would appreciate if you can elaborate on your preparation....how long...how you approached it etc.
are the barron word lists enough?

I know its annoying with slew of questions whilst congratulating someone!i'm bit apprehensive about my prep esp verbal.

thanks!

vicedens 2002: I did the barrons word lists thorugh and thorugh.. i'm a non english speaker, so i really had to work hard at it. at the end i had around 60 to 80 words which i wasn't too familiar with and for those i made flash cards. also i suggest you do the ETS official book. it is very good for the verbal.

starbucks: math agian i primarily used barrons. its cd is not too helpful but the book is. KApaln.. i used just the cd and powerprep. the ETS book is good only to brush up your basics.

kkaman: i work part time so i used to work intermittently on weekdays and more on weekends. but i think a month and a half of preparation is sufficient. remember not to delay it for too long. since quant requires constant practice...a month and a half is enough to finish all the prep material. the word lists might take longer though. keep at it! the barrons is quite exhaustive. so its better to have that under your belt. one can't predict which words could come in the real exam. its an ocean out there...but do barrons and you will be good to go!

BEst of luck!!

awesome score sefi! - I just started reading those crappy words from the Barron's and my head is already spinning heavy. Do you feel those 3500+ words are sufficient to get a score like yours?

Thanks,
Wanna1600
