I don't know if a healthy amount of confidence is necessarily a good thing for a test like the GRE; it's a very thin line between confidence and overconfidence. Many of the math problems are deceptively simple, but are a little "tricky." For a person who hasn't studied basic math in quite some time and regards him/herself as having mastered more advanced concepts, that can be a dangerous combination if they do not question their gut instinct when taking the test (especially around the 3rd or 4th problem).

Well Walt526 you are right......
But confidence does not mean that you just go into the exam without studying/reviewing the concepts...it means that you have the confidence doing just that(reviewing the concepts) knowing that you can do much more better..........

Sure. But any person considering graduate school--regardless of background--has almost certainly done much more advanced math than what is tested on the GRE. If you've completed Algebra II (which nearly all high graduates who go onto college have), then you're doing more advanced math. And most college-track high school students complete at least Pre-Calculus, if not Calculus AB or BC before even getting to college. Most institutions and/or the majors have some sort of math requirement where they'll have to take some sort of basic calculus course. Even if its just "Calculus for Business" or "Social Science Calculus" or even "Elementary Statistics," that course includes more challenging material than the GRE.

My point is that any one who is in the position to be considering graduate school should feel confident about his/her ability to succeed on the GRE Math. You definitely do not advanced mathematics, and having taken some of those courses, I don't think that it's all together that helpful. In some ways it's demoralizing to have taken upper-division math and then get a headache from some of the trickier quantitative comparisons!

I hope so, because I am neither

Thanks a lot. I'll be praying for you too. And yes, God will help us all.

@ Luma, 8% of people who take the GRE get the perfect quant score. Certainly, with a little extra preparation and with support from this forum, there's no reason why you shouldn't be among that number. So, go for it.

pirimidin has no rep yet.
In your first time, did you encounter lots of strange or complicated words that are not included in Barron's?

I recall that 2 of the word perplexed me. However, when I turned back home and analyzed them I could figure out the solution. The issue is, if you encountered such a problem it could consume your time at the test ...

BTW, when are you attacking GRE?
