    GRE preparation time

    Hi All,

Could you please provide inputs to below questions

    1. How much time does one need roughly to get a good score in both quant and verbal? I have around 2.5 months to prepare for GRE.

    2. For Verbal which books/materials would you guys recommend ?

    3. How close is GMAT preparation close to GRE preparation? What sections' preparation would be helpful on both?

    Thanks,

It depends on your experience with English and Mathematics.

IMHO if your English is weak (e.g. not your first language and you have a hard time reading/writing it), no amount of preparation will help you get a 160+ score. If your English is above average, you can get 160+ without any preparation.

Mathematics is different. Prior experience/expertise does not improve score but helps reduce preparation time. For example, because I am a Math major and recently finished a masters in Mathematics, I didn't have to do much revision and could go straight into practicing questions. Even with so much familiarity, I would say it still took 2 weeks of practice to reach 160+ level.

Books: Low budget option = Princeton Review. High budget = Magoosh.

    HI,
According to me GRE will be good option because gre is all about measures the extent which the education has developed the student's verbal skill as well as quantitative skills. In verbal there are first 30 question have to solve with in 30 minutes and in second 20 question in 30 minutes. In quantitative 45 minutes for 28 question in first section and in second section 35 minutes for 20 question.

    gre prep

    hi,
Time required to prepare for quant and verbal depends on how strong your concepts are. If you are good at aptitude then two to three months of regular practice would be sufficient.Practicing questions in a timed situation is compulsory. Read a lot from newspapers and magazines.A lot of practice material is available in the Internet. Solve a lot of gre sample papers and practice a lot of online practice questions for free from the internet. . A general practice book by ETS is preferable.
