Hi all.

This is Namrata, I just finished my GRE. Got pretty satisfactory results of
Q:800
V:690
and hoping 5-6 in writing.

I am a CS graduate frm MNREC, Allahabad, India and was fortunate enough to b among the second topper in my branch. I am in need of desperate help on following two points

1. As I am frm a middle class indian family , my parents are utterly unable to give me any kind of financial support... and while filling the form most of the unis need Financial Info of the candidate....even if i get sm schols/assistantship(i'm applying fr PhD) later, but wat can i do NOW to fill the form

2. Sri, I read ur tips about transferring after 1-2 semesters to UIUC... can u mention sm other unis in which transfer after 1-2 sem is possible.

Once more, I am relying on u guys....

Hi Namrata,

Good score.Congrats. Don't worry about Financial Backing. If u apply thro' consultancies, they offer this help also for a very nominal fee. So, try applying thro' a reputed con.All the best.

Hi xylinx!
Congrats for good scores.Being a topper,you can get some of the good univs in USA.Your chances are much more if you are going for PhD rather than MS.
And don't worry about finance.You will get full scholarship there.Are you applying this year.Then you need to hurry up.Feel free to ask any further info.

Hey Namrata,

First of all hearty congratulations to u!!... Great score there. And now about that transfering schools, frankly that info is not at the top of my head, if u give me some more time I can help u....In the meantime, u can do a li'l google search with the terms " Universities under same administration" or something akin to it and find out. I know about UIUC for sure bcoz most people do that between UI-Springfield and UIUC. I wish I could help u right now, but, I have my SOP to take care of and I dont have a CLUE where to start that one thing!!!

Man, apping process is one big uphill task ain't it???

Hello Namrata,

One other set of schools which have the same criteria as UIUC and UISpringField are UC schools (UCLA, UCSC, UCB etc). So u have three sets now, one in the midwest, UIUC and etc , one in the south, Texas A&M and the other here in the west ..... There are many others but the thing is most of the schools in those clusters are in the same ranking range...Transfer between those schools doesn't help that much. But in these 3 clusters the range of rankings between schools is very broad and so it makes sense to do that li'l "thingy" that i said.....Also, I would recommend u to do some research on ur own as well bcoz I might have missed some valuable info....I wish I could help u better, but, my SOP is taking aweful lot of time and with my part-time job I am totally being helpless
