Hi Priyanka,

Nice TOEFL scores. But tough Luck for you there in the GRE. 560 in Q might work against you in some cases if you are an engineering student. But 590 in V is surely not too bad. So dont fret too much on your scores and I'd rather suggest you to take up the GRE another time that'd be convenient. I'm sure you'd fare much better on a better day.

Cheer up,
Xaero

Cheer up, Priyanka!!

From your posts, I am sure that you are a very intelligent and capable person, and I am sure that if you think back on your preparation, that you will easily discover what you could do to improve your performance. I would bet that you simply did not prepare enough!

So, try to keep your chin up for now, and hit the books! You'll see that you'll likely do better next time.

Remember, one of the most important things in test prep is not letting the test get us down. Remember, it's just a test (and a somewhat silly one at that), and it has little or no reflection of your character, ability, or all-round goodness.

You can do it!!

Thanks Erin and Xaero for cheering me up.
I didn't get any test date in India so I registered myself for test in Kathmandu. On 10th nov i came to know that a 3-day strike would start from 11th nov in Kathmandu. Because of Maoist activities, Nepal has become an unsafe place. My flight was on 13th nov. Till 10th to the time i took the flight i was very much tensed whether I would be able to take my test on 14th and 15th nov. After reaching Kathmandu, I finally felt relieved. But the night prior to my GRE test I couldn't sleep for a single minute. During quantitative section, I felt my brain had literally stopped working. when i looked at the question, i knew i could solve it but i just couldn't solve it.
I would advise all of the test takers, take proper sleep before test day otherwise it would act as a impediment on the test day.
I am not an engineering student. I did my graduation in commerce stream. And i am looking forward to doing my masters in Business + information Technology.
On the basis of these scores can I still hope?

Those scores are by no means a true indication of your ability. Indeed, they clearly highlight the gross inadequacy of standardised tests such as GRE, GMAT, SAT etc.

Your scores don't mean the nd of the world. You could take the tests again. Maybe, you could even take the GMAT, as managment seems to be your area of interest. There are many programs that don't consider GRE. I know for a fact MIT and Purdue CS programs don't.

Whatever happens, please don't give up on your plans for doing post-grad studies. If your posts on this forum are anything to go by, the academic world needs people of your calibre.

I wish you all the best for the future.

Thanks Amigo for ur advise. I will be able to retake GRE only after14th jan and I think it will be too late because most of the universities deadline are in january and February.
This time i am going to try my luck with these scores. I know now I won't be able to get admission in a good university. But I wanted to know one thing, if i take admission in an average university, on the basis of my performance in first semester, can i take transfer in a good university?

Well if it helps, I have seen instances when people have got bad GRE scores and yet they have managed to get into good colleges. It may play a part, but I think colleges do look at the overall picture and not "JUST" the scores.

If it helps I got
V-430
Q - 750
(What extremes ?)

Overall I'll sum it up as I did not do enough preparation and I have to forget about it and look up for TOEFL which is on Dec 2nd.

Hi Gautam,
I can understand how u must have felt. Anyway, ALL THE BEST for TOEFL. I am sure u will find it much easier than GRE, especially the reading comprehension

Yes, Priyanka is right. RCs are a lot easier in TOEFL than in the GRE.

And Priyanka, a "bubble" always goes up. . You should be looking at ways to improve your score, and from what you've said, It's obvious that your journey, anxiety and exhaustion affected your score badly.

If you take the test again, there's only one way you can go from here ^

All the best!
