hi erin, amigro and everybody
i took my GRE on 2nd dec and i have a score of
v-520, q- 720
i am disappointed with my scores.
I felt I COuld have done much better.
wanna apply for PhD courses in Biochemistry
dont think that these scores are good enough to apply
considering retaking the test ..but after some time
presently i have to concentrate on TOEFL which is on 20th December.
thanks everybody for essays and reviews. TM is a real good guide , i came to know of it rather too late.
i feel i have done good on the AWA , but awaiting scores.
how much time does it take?

You just said it yourself, dude! It might just be the beginning. Dont let your scores disappoint you. Go on with the TOEFL, and the scores are not as bad as you think they are. Explore all the possibilities!!!

Congrats !

1240 is not a bad score at all. Even the best unis will still consider you if you have a 500+ for V and 700+ for Q. I am not sure about A.

You could still go ahead an apply. Remember, most adcoms consider GREs scores to be the 4th most important thing, after Transcripts, LoRs, and SoP. So you are not in a totally hopeless situation. The onus is on you to do well on those other areas.

I think Sri once made a long post with a lot of pointers on what do if your GRE scores are below your expectations. It's somewhere in this section.

Well, Nish, don't give up. Keep your chin up and work hard for your TOEFL.

Nish, ur scores are not all that bad. U miht feel that way now, but, after a few days u'll start enjoying them and IMHO these scores are good enuf to get into any decent school......HEARTY CONGRATS TO U AND GOOD LUCK FOR UR TOEFL.

you are decent...try to consider city univiersities. they are usually have low requairements .......

how many universities should i apply to ..ideally?
with this GRE score i was thinking of applying to 4-6 univs.
if any tips for TOEFL exam do gimme.
i dunno from where to start.
which softwares are available for TOEFL.
and which are the tougher sections.
do the essays in TOEFL always come from thelist given in the bulletin.
please reply..waiting for your tips and responses.

After GRE, Toefl is going to be very easy for you. Most of the students face problem in listening section. For this u might get help from esl-lab.com. For structure section, Test magic has provided lots of practice tests.
The essay will come from the list only. go through the sample essays already given here. All the Best.
