HI ,
i gave my gre yesterday ,12/18/2002 .My scores were q:800/800 and v:480/800.I am not this poor in verbal and this score could be imputed to my unawareness of giving 2 sets of papers .

I have a story to narrate from which lot of you can learn.I am a computer engineer and i thought quanta would be my forte.And i bungled awfully in first paper.I forgot that there will be two graphs in D.I.(imagine the blunder because i knew that D.I. is doing to b a bit tricky i assumed the question is harder this way)and gawked and wasted nearly 10 minutes...second question which deprived me of my time was a guessing the coordinates of a triangle.initially after working for some i thought it could not be calculated and suddenly i thought working backwards.put the coordiantes and compare and that was some root calculation which befuddled me ...i was so sure about not lacking tiem in qaunta that i did not hesitate in giving so much time to these questions and then i realised i had really run short of time..and in order to leave no questioin untouched i blindly marked some of the questions..and was practically crying within...the worst part is verbal follows immediately after a 60 sec break .
Being so depressed and lost and despaired ,i kept feeling now it is useless to give the verbal also..But i saw really easy questions initially and thought i could still make up...but i was not totally into paper i realised when i had to reread the simple compre 2-3 times to grasp its essence. i thought as i knew most of the words properly , i had fared confidently well.I was scoring always above 500 in kaplan ,powerprep and princeton when i was not knowing so many words.
But when the second quanta came i was surprised as to why this came.But i thought lets give it .may be time to lift my average .i thought that my quanta score would be average of this two.And i gave it without much tension and completed it way before time limit.i had 10 minutes to spare .
I went out to ask invigilator why i got second quanta and she told me that you get 2 quanta and 2 verbal.I felt ok and went in to see to my amazement that i did not get 2nd verbal.Again i went to clear the confusion and she told me that computer does not think so...weird...
then i got to see my score qaunta 800/800 and vebal 480/800 .both i could not beleive.
i think only my second quanta ultimately was considered and i had spoiled my verbal due to initial questions mistakes.
The most imp thing to note from my experience is that
"REMEMBER ALWAYS THAT YOU HAVE CHANCE TO MAKE UP IN SECOND PAPER SO DO NOT PANIC .FIRST QUESTIONS OF IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING PAPER CAN GET LESS ATTENTION IF YOU PANIC FROM YOUR FIRST PAPERS BAD PERFORMANCE.AND AS YOU MUST BE KNOWING THAT MISTAKES IN INITIAL QUESTIONS CAN LEAD TO HUGE MARKS LOSS"

Gudiachikku, First of all congrats for getting a perfect score in Quant!!. That's really awesome and u deserve to celebrate a lot bcoz u got a score which only some people can dream!!. Now ur V score is not all that bad....I know how u feel when u expect something and it doesn't happen...if u r a CS major V is not all that important anyway....So forget about ur V and celebrate ur success in Q.

About the additional section THERE IS ALWAYS ONE EXPERIMENTAL SECTION IN THE GRE....It could be EITHER a V or a Q (I haven't heard anybody getting an additional AWA so far , so I am assuming that the experimental section is either a V or a Q, guys, correct me if I am wrong). U'll never know which of the two sections is experimental.....If u read the GRE instructions carefully u'll be prepared for this.

thnx a lot sri....till i get admission i m keeping my fingers crossed and praying that god gives me a good chance to study from good college...till then i need some support from people like you .knowledge of real cases of people like my score getting through will help my drooped moral see some hope...
