Q:780 and V:370: Please help

Hi every one,
Today I gave my GRE and my score is very bad. as you can see in subject line. I am from EC background. I have a 1 year experiance of working in corporate in Embedded systems domain.
Please help.. is there any hope of getting admission into any average university?

Hey, hey, hey! Your score is not bad at all! If I understood correctly your major is Electrical Engineering so the Verbal part does not matter and Q780 I think is very good!

Thanks, but think universities do not consider which domain I am applying, they need a good score for admssion and financial aid. Any good universities you can suggest.

What bout ur GPA, recos?
I to hav a bad score v390 q800 a5.0.
So, ur domain is electical/electronics engg?
I have spoken to some consultants.

The good news is tht in many cases this department does not consider verbal score for admissions.
You could try University of southern Cali.
Its a good university. But the aid scene is real bad.
If you are applying for spring, its gonna be hard to get aid.

The bad news is , teaching assistantships are hard to get with low verbal.
But, since you have work exp, u could try for research assistantship.

Some people i know , have got aid with a low verbal( below 400) at these univs:
-Saint Joseph's univ at philadelphia
-West Virginia Inst of tech @ Montogomory
-Temple Univ
I dunno how good these univs are. Up to you to find out.

You could increase your chances of getting a TA by doing the TSE, but I don't know how easy/difficult it is. I do think that at least it tests your speaking abilities and not endless lists of rarely used words (like the GRE Verbal) Some universities even ask for it to be eligible for a TA, and I think that, especially when your GRE Verbal wasn't that good, it could compensate for that. An excellent TOEFL score is also a way of compensating for that, of course.

So, do you mean that they are interested only in the total? i.e. Total of 1400 (Q800 V600 = Q600 V800) ????

Guys your scores are NOT bad if you are foreign students. Most universities accept that foreign students struggle on verbal so it shouldnt be that much of a disadvantage.
