GRE: 1100 (V 360 , Q 740) Please advise
Hi,
I'm an undergradute student majoring in Computer Science. I took the GRE exam today and scored 1100, V 360, Q 740. I plan on applying for Grad school in Computer Science. I have a CGPA of 3.98/4.0, and 4.0/4.0 Major GPA. I have worked as intern at one of worlds famous pharmaceutical company for 1 year. I do have strong Recommendation letters, and strong SOP. Do you think I stand a chance of getting into any of the following schools: Cornell University University of Michigan Carnegie Mellon University Purdue University University of Pennslyvania. Please comment, I'm curious to know your opinions. Thanks in advance, AN. |

I am by no means an expert, so this is based on my own experiences and observing others. Your Q740 is great. However, how did you study for the verbal? I feel that it can be brought up, because a 360V is low. Did you prepare vocab lists, etc? It should be around 550V average at the least, even if you are a foreigner. For the schools you're considering, your GPA and experience is perfect. However, they will also see your GRE score. I do not want to bring you down and this is just one opinion, but your GRE score might strike against you for these top schools.

Hey guys (Pfieat and Sree), the top-tier is kinda strict about the GRE scores being above a certain minimum, but not unduly... your Quant scores wil count more, definitely...
Sree, I think yes. Cinti and Syra and not bad univs... the difference between an excellent deptt and a good deptt is, in many cases, simple number of good faculty... however, you can't learn from 50 people... if you have a certain field in mind and if relevant faculty is there in a school, rankings can and should take a backseat... best, Attraxion. |

But sree, you *need* to have an area defined in which you want to work, you got to elaborate on it in the SOP... you need to reach out to relevant professors...
Decide on it first, admits and aids will follow... I am sure (though I cannot back it up with data, I'm quite new here) these univs will be giving aids and TAs/RAs... best, Attraxion. |

Hello Guys,
I recently gave my GRE and have got a score of 1020 very upset about it.Have plans of doing MS in EE/CS. One of the universities where I want to apply has a minimum requirement of 1100. I spoke to the univ people and they have adviced me to take up Gre again . Is there any possibility of me getting into a university with this score? Do I have to take my GRE again?plz solve this conundrum for me...thanx in advance... ![]() |

hi faz,
i am in the same boat as u r. my belief is that we can make it with this score, though some people in the forum suggest that retake would help. i have been researching quite a bit since i took my gre and i feel that i dont have to retake. i do not have the time to retake. thats a different story altogather :-p cheers sree |
