hey..u got an 800/800 on quant..thats nice..can u tell us sth abt the questions
Hi evryone,
Not an active member but ofcourse a passive onlooker.
Toefl-223-280 and expect 5-6 in essay.
Gre-1270 with 470 in Verbal was really a great disappointment.
800 in Quant was surely a saitsfying score.
Hope to get 4.5-5 in essays.
This was my second take.In 2003(senior yrs of my undergraduate at IIT Roorkee,India), I had got 1240(460,780,4.5).
I had aimed at a Verbal score of 550 upwards this time but it turned out to be a great fiasco on the day of GRE.
Anyways past is past and now I hope to enhance the effect of other factors to get admits from the US universities.
Wish U all BoL for the exams.....
Practice has no alternatives...so practice more and more...which i surely missed....and missed the train to good Verbal GRE score...

Thanks mahamaya101,priyankagre2005,seagull,sunny2005....
And BoL to sunny2005 for a better and enviable score...
Needed help from TMians on my chances to top 20 and 30 Universities...
I have a few strong recos,3 projects with one as Best Undergraduate Project and another as an entry in CSIDC(an international competition organized by IEEE),gpa of 8.3/10 and hopeful of writing a nice SOP.....
How much does score affect in getting admit in top 10s,20s,30s Universities?
I have already applied for UIUC,UTA,U of Maryland CP,Duke University.....
Please suggest more universities in Communications and Wireless....I am targeting among top 30s?
Am i being too optimistic or realistic given my credentials?
Please help.......
thanks alot in advance....

Hi Sunny and mahamaya...
As far as the questions in Verbal are concerned, i remember a few like antonyms for esteem, pernicious, proffer(can't recall more). One analogy i remember was apiary:bee ...
RCs were in last 15 and I really messed them up...Didn't have enuf time to go thru one lengthy RC and had to blindly answer 5/6 questions so as to complete the test...Time Management Failure really ruined me....
Practice from Big Book (which i cudn't do) and Barron should provide enuf confidence and then rest of the other materials can be used for refining one's preparation...
Quant problems were not as easy as it seems from PP tests. But one has enuf time to solve the 28 odd questions....so a good amount of practice will surely lead to a good score...
Questions were from all the sections viz number theory,co-ordinate geometry, probability(a simple question),sd( another simple question- mean and sd was given and it was said that each score involved in the mean is raised by 5...so what's the resultant sd...answer is that sd remains the same...),graphs ( complex ones- really exhausting).....
Practice and Practice...that's probably the key to a high score in GRE...
hope this helps....
Manish...

hey it seems your profile surely has the capability to get you through in top 30-40 ranked university. Moreso because you have an IITian tag with you. I mean the brand would surely help. However if i were you, i would really pray so that i get atleast 4.5+ on my AWA because it would then render your failure(actually it is surely above average) in verbal without any teeth and you might then just sail through in top 20 as well.
Best of luck and do keep us informed about your admission process.
Thanks decentpravin & suja84_ibt !!
Me working hard on application stuff- deciding the Universities,SOP,Recos etc..
Seems all r busy these days...NO reply as advice on University selection
Me really looking forward for help from you all if U could suggest univs in the ambitious, moderate and safe category for MS/PhD in Wireless Communication/Networking....
