HEY GUYS ,


here i am with some details and stuff of my experience of GRE journey.

I had booked my GRE dates about 3 months ago .......... giving myself ample time to prepare. But things dint go as per my planning. I was occupied initially wit my B.E final semester exams. After that the party went onn for a week and i lost track of my GRE dates. Then some of my friends who had given GRE last year and nailed it were leaving to the US . All these happened a month ago. So i was literally left with only a month to prepare.

Initially i had given it up , coz i had seen my friends slog for over four months to get a score of 1400+ . But then i reviewed all the post in this forum,(thanks to erin), and i came up with the conclusion that the scores are deparment specific. What scores a EC or CS branch would expect, would not be the same for civil or rather transportation(which is my field). So i spent a day to take advice from couple of seniors out there in the US in my field and asked them for their scores and other details. One interesting thing i found out was the higher quant requirement than verbal.So, here i was with about three weeks to prepare for my GRE. I started out planning to do about 2 wordlist a day and did that successfully for about 4 days . I was feeling it very easy while doing it . But after a week i actually realised, the words actually dont sink in that easily. When i tried recollecting.....phew!!!!......... nothing. Meanwhile i used to work out maths on a daily basis for about an hour or so ....... started off with Barons, then nova, kaplan,arco,......... the list just goes onn........ This is a child s play actually. You dont have to do all the problems,but, just appreciate the minute difference in the approach of solving problems. At last i manged to do 30 wordlist , only 25 thoroughly.......... and maths which i mentioned above. (tip: unless u r rich son ....... download ever bit from this forum..... its a blessing )

Had there been no time constraint, i am pretty sure anyone would crack the quants with not less than 750. As far as SD and mean ...... those kinds of topic .... i would advice that u dont have to know any formula, nor sit and solve hundreds of prob...... just try to understand its concept. It s very interesting and once u understand it theoretically, u cant just go wrong on aswering those questions.

Verbal i have no advice guyz....... i just advice that believe the PP scores. following were my scores :

PP1: v350 q700
pp2: v380 q720
barrons: v600 q800 (never trust it!!!!! it just has questions from its exercise...... so invariably u will answer it correct.... just a morale booster)
nova: crap ( dont even try this CD ..... but the book is AMAZING!!!!)

Apart from these , NOTHING AT ALL. NO big book, no bible ........ nothing guyz....... had no time actually.

So i set out to the exam wit a realistic score in mind . v400q700.... i landed there very early . My exam was sceduled at 9am . as per instructions u got to arrive 30 min early. I went off an hour early. Man!!! there were over ten guyz b4 me waiting already........ so then i realised that i am not the only one nervous, tried calmin myself down..... did all the formalities and there i got a seat in front of a comp. Started off with issue ....... skipped all the tutorials.........

ISSUE topic (not stating the exact wordings) was something like : " Only by mistakes there are discoveries and progress " ......... i chose this

secong topic was something like " eminent personalities should set examples to the others to l;ead the society ..... blah blah......... dint read it....... hate politics ........

I hadnt prepared anything for the AWA at all ..... but basically i just followed the basics:

first para: thy stance.. plus.... couple of points
second : elaborate first point
third : elaborate second and all points u have
fourth : refute ..... i mean state a counter arg and jusrtfy it
fifth : conclude it satisfactorily

i dont think anyone can do beyond this , time constraint man !!!!!!!!!


ARGUMENT : was fun man ........ it was so stupid ..... some health product sales increased , so people have become more health conscious.... phew !!!!!!!! got nothing to say .......

QUANTS : first question i took 5 min ......... believe me........ full 5 min .... it was something like....... if x is odd ....... which of the following is also odd .......... and 5 options ........... man .......... i started off wit a wrong aproach ....... PLUG in ...... man!!!!!11..... hard wrk ..... three of them satisfied for 1,3, and 5 ........ then went back to basics ......... Odd multiplied with odd is odd ....... the answer in the expressions werent simple ......... they were like for eg: choice A : ((x+1)^5)+x-2)

Then the quants was ok ........ will the last question ......... i dint hurry up at any stage , still i had 3 min for the last question ......... and know what guys ......... i had my last question something like : a circle is divided into 9 parts ..... angle of each segment ......... GOSH!!!!!!!! i freaked out .... coz in adaptive , i heard if u r doin well u get tough questions , but i got this cheap question ........... i was freaked to the core ......... but what to do ........ had to continue.......

Verbal ...... i dont want to recollect ........ i made a mockery out of it... anyways........ i thought i got first couple of them right ........ then at bout 6-9 RC ........ man ........ It was out of the world passages........ it was so hard to grasp ......... and believe me........ i got three RCS ... two of bout 50 lines and the last one i got at some 25th question was of 102 lines .......... anyways ..... at that moment i was just laughin ....... coz for the last 10 questions i had only five min ........ so it dint matter at all.......... i just clicked everythin randomly and had a minute to spare........ hehe........

research section juist QUIT...............

the moment of truth when i had to see my scores or reject it ........ i went ahead and clicked YES ........... and then ........ B**** ......... it asked for confirmation again ............. hehe..... now its actually funny ... anyways,....... confirmed and saw my scores ............. it was just as expected ..................
