What i hear is that they hv been asked more often in the recent tests

I dont remember seeing any probability/combination questions in my test but thats no indicator of whether you will get it or not.I did see a few SD ones

I think Jive has hit the nail on the head when he says that if you get your SC's/analogies/antonym's correct early on your chances of hitting a RC early are less ..the reason I say it is my first RC was about the 11th or 12 question...

Jive good luck with your examination tomorrow,I am sure you will do great

I'm not exactly sure how it works except from powerprep and the conventional wisdom seems on the money about the first 10 questions. That I can say with some amount of certainty.

I have scored around 690 on the verbal powerprep 1 test with the first questions wrong (on purpose) and getting 3 wrong total. Ordinarily, this equates to a score of 770 or 780 but striking erroneous on an early problem is an ETS no-no akin to telling a girl she has snot dripping down her nose at the outset of a first date. They won't forget -- ever -- and to get them to forgive partially will take an enormous amount of uphill assiduity :-)

Some algo tidbits from powerprep that I have gathered, especially on the verbal. On the math, I'm no expert so I'll defer to someone else on that.

Try not to get any wrong until you hit RC's (I know, easier said then done). My speculation is that the more questions (antonyms, sc, analogies) that you get right, the less likelihood of getting a dreaded EARLY RC. This is not proven, just speculation. Back to back RC toward the far end of the test is an algorthmic dream come true from what I can tell. (They're hard, you can get a bunch wrong, and still arrive at a really high score. This does happen on Powerprep - rarely - where you don't hit an RC until as late as 16/17).

Don't get the first RC question you encounter, wrong. This is the difference of about 20 points at the higher levels.

Do not get consecutive RC's in a row wrong, especially if it's a 4 question RC (usually the second set of RC's). You can spiral 50 or so points more than you would if wrong answers were spaced out.

I will take the test tomorrow afternoon so I'll report more on "cosa nostra" (this thing of ours!!).

Hey thanks Mervin n Jive
That was a good shot at the algo
What surprises me is ETS funda of getting the first 10 q rite else u hv to settle for parsimonious score shd seem preety implausible for starters but so far so good.

All thee best for ur GRE Jive. Bon Chance.

This might seem like a dumb question but please bear with me ,will the fact that I did not get a perfect score in the Math section affect me ,I know Its a difference of 20 only but I was just browsing through some university websites and they said the average quantitative score is above the 90 percentile and I believe thats about 790 .My verbal scores are well above average but for most Universities but will that help me compensate for the loss of 20 points..I just hope those 20 points dont end up being a dampener for my application process

How many hours did you devote in studying for the verbal section? Thanks and once again, congratulations!
