I think I messed up in RC's too. In a few cases, I was able to get the options down to 2, and then had to choose the one I thought best. The only way you can possibly improve is practice, practice and more practice. Go through
BB RC's. They help a lot. And as far as possible, try to do the RC's on the computer. I don't know what it is, but I always found RC's simpler when I was looking at them on paper.
You are right. I was expecting to get a score of around 1400-1500 before giving the GRE. After I finished my Verbal and Quants though, all bets were off.

. So, I was pleasantly surprised to see my score.
For prep, I don't think one book encompasses everything. For Verbal, I would suggest
BB and Barron's. For Quants, Nova and Barron's. Note that while my Quants section was not tough, it was different from what I had been practicing. Verbal was standard stuff.
