Without disclosing any of the questions, it is difficult to do so. Nevertheless, let me try.

The questions I encountered on the GRE required a minimum of calculations. Moreover, they were more concerned with testing your ability to apply mathematical concepts, instead of the formulae that you knew. Most questions could be done intuitively, without resorting to complicated calculations.

Hope this helps.

Hey goldust congrats on your wonderful score !
i had a doubt as to whether the powerprep software is re-doable ? i have given the 1st PP test, and am yet to give the 2nd one. I wanted to ask if i give the PP Test 1 again, though i know the questions wont all be the same, but do they have a chance of being repeated in the 2nd one ? ( because i don't want the PP test questions to be a repeat and therefore not reflect a true score )
Also, i have just about 5 days left for the test, i am done with the barrons list, do you think i should look for some new words from some bigger list at this stage or just stick with what iv done ?
thanx again !

Tests 1 and 2 have completely different question banks. If you repeat Test 1, then you will encounter quite a few questions that you have already seen. Doing Test 2 is independent of doing Test 1.

As for the wordlist, it is better to stick with what you have done. Just be sure that you know the meanings of the words in BB, Kaplan or any other book that you may be using. As it stands, there is no end to the number of words you can learn. Moreover, since you only have 5 days left, it is best that you consolidate what you do know, instead of focusing on what you don't. best of luck!

Hey thnx for the reply Goldust.
I want to share some observations with u.
I just gave PP2 test today n just like u i got 3 RC's n coincidentally i got the second RC as 110 line like the one u got in GRE.
Im sure there hv been some logic to getting the RC's of that kind and number.

Secondly, the kind of Quants q i got in PP2 had me baffled, they were way different frm wat i hv been solving. Ideally i get a score of around 760 - 800 on other testing materials but PP q's were very different frm the traditional ones. I generally hear ppl saying that PP quants is very easy mayb PP chose me to be an exception in the kind of q's i got for the test .Moreover DI was my second q on PP whereas in normal test they appear after ur 10 q .Im of the opinion tht PP quants r the ideal ones to solve during last days of ur exam

Coincidence? I don't think so. After all, my 110-line RC was my third one.

I think you would agree that PP2 Quants were different, but not exceptionally difficult. Get ready for more of the same on the actual thing, if my experience is anything to go by.

brilliant scores!
Tell me, is Barron's + BB sufficient for verbal? What i've been doing is exactly the same as you described- I take a BB test, and mark the words I don't know and make lists of those and learn them.
I have my exam in 9 days, and I'm doing- 1 full test + barrons WLs + the BB tests daily. I'm running out of quant tests to practice on- I want an 800- the concepts tested are trivial, but I tend to make a few mistakes in each practice test- so it wavers around 760-800- I've found that I'm not used to comp tests..I messed up the second pp test because I was marking the wrong column after solving, etc. , so need some practice with those.
What can you suggest that I do to push up my score in these last few days ? What did you do towards the end?

Thanks a lot.

@geek_goddess

Your verbal practice seems to be right on the money. As for Quants, since you are hovering in between 760-800, it is safe to say that it is definitely not because of lack of knowledge, but due to silly errors. Don't worry! I ended up making a lot of such errors in the week before my test. In fact, the day before I was to give my test, I messed up 3 out of 10 questions in some practice Quants section that I gave.

Towards the end of my prep, I just kept doing 25-30 questions per day from different sources ... you know to keep in touch with math. I suggest that you cover some questions from Barron's/Nova and PP. As long as you can keep your calculation skills honed, there should be no problem.

Goldust mentioned the issue regarding not being allowed to carry 'extra layers of clothes' to the test.

I also faced the same problem and I just want to crib about it here

I was carrying an extra light cardigan with me. All the GRE guide books stated ‘Dress in layers’ ‘Dress in layers’. But at the centre I was told by the staff there that I cannot carry the cardigan with me, I have to wear it. I was like ok. I wore it. Then I was told I cannot take it off during the exam and put it on the table or the chair. I was like ok. I though I’d put it on my lap if needed. Then they said I can’t do that either. Now this got to me. I told them GRE bulletin expressly states that ‘Dress so that you can adapt to any room temperature’. How does a normal human being dress so that they can do that? Wear an electric blanket and switch it on and off as needed? That is the only way that does not require taking clothes off to adapt to room temperatures.

The GRE bulletin states that “Personal items such as hats, scarves, jackets and outerwear that are taken into the test room are subject to inspection by the rest centre staff before being admitted to the test room." The GRE bulletin DOES NOT state the following ‘Examinees must be wearing all the extra clothing, they cannot carry any cardigans or jackets in their hand, and if they choose to take it off during the test they cannot put it on their lap or on the chair’ (they can just pray it vanishes into the thin air if they start feeling hot)

“But Ma’am that may be a general policy, we have to implement our rules according to what is feasible here, anyone can carry anything in a jacket.”
Fine I said, I’ll wear my cardigan just now, is it ok if I raise my hand in case I start feeling hot and the proctor can take away my cardigan.

What was interesting was that one of the managers instantly responded with a ‘No!’ whereas the other said ‘Yes, that will be fine.’ I guess they just make the rules as they go along, even they are not very sure of what the rules are.

I thought of writing to ETS about this, but I couldnt bring myself to remove the sarcasm from my writing

By the way I'm from India. And I got 1530. Pretty happy considering I only studied for 2 weeks . I've posted about it.

http://www.urch.com/forums/just-fini...eks-study.html (1530 V730; Q800 - 2 weeks of study :))

In general I'd like to concur with all the advice Goldust has posted here. You don't really need to read though all that I've written in my post if you've read hers, I tend to digress a lot

Cheers! and wish all you test takers all the best!

Easy, easy. I understand how irritating some of the rules can be. But what can you do about it at the centre, right?
