GRE Jinx

How many are working 40+ hours while preparing for the GRE?

I have my exam scheduled in 2 weeks. I've been in a steady study mode and was mentally prepared to take the exam. Suddenly, all hell has broken loose at work and I've had to double my hours and may have to re-schedule. I'm so burnt out thinking about this exam. Why couldn't this wait a few more weeks! ahhhh

ok, I'm done venting.

Oldman,
I feel your pain because I have already re-scheduled once. I wanted to take the test in June - same story...work doubled and stress tripled. Now I'm going to take it in August (if all goes well), however, I'm afraid I can't claim to be studying at an even pace or any pace at all. Anywho, I have my fingers crossed and hopefully I'll meet the August deadline..

Oldman I am sorry to hear this had to happen with the exam so close but do take it easy.Getting stressed out will never help.Take some time to relax and take the the exam when your stress levels are low .I am sure you will do great

I'm planning for GRE in mid September and i started my prep yesterday.
yesterday i also got an offer form a leading research org to join next week. and certainly that would be 45+ work. and you never know situation can be more grimmer.

hearing both of your story now i'm a bit puzzled what to do. should i join ? or take the GRE first ? i'm in real dilemma . ....

please give me some suggestions.

and all the best of luck to oldman.

Thanks for the encouragement Mervin!

The issue with me is I may not get the time off I scheduled to relax a day or two before the exam. Oh well, I'm just sick of thinking about the GRE and am ready to be done with it. The thought of putting it off is daunting to say the least. But what can you do. Thanks for listening to my vent.

For econ PhD, it depends on how strong you are now and how high you have to score. I would have a specific goal in mind then it will easier for you to assess your situation.

I understand your frustration,I also work 40 + hours a week but I had already applied for 4 days leave before the actual examination date( had told my manager about this leave like 2 months before too).

Since you cannot take leave and dont have too much time to study,I think the best thing for you is to have a quick run through your weak points. Like try skimming through the verbal word lists and maths formulaes and try to cover up any weak points. Its tough to be perfect but this will help in some small way in acting as a refresher

Hi Oldman,

Sorry to hear about your situation. I too also work 40+ hours a week. On top of that, we had been without a manager since Feb and about 7 days ago, one of our members dropped his resignation and he is done. Needless to say, I will be picking up some of the work and all while studying for GRE.

Hang in there. It will work out.

Thanks guys. Yeah, its insane, I'm in the exact same situation giddy!! Crazy. It's hard to explain to the pressure to perform on this exam to friends because most of them have never pursued an education beyond undergrad. Also, I'm the first in my family to go to college, so its good to have support from my fellow test magicians. :-)

Congratulations for being the first one to go to college. That is awesome! I was the only one in my family who went beyond high school and finished a master's degree.

I am very glad the this forum is really a good place to vent out. The sun will come out soon
