GRE 1280 Q730 V 550 ... Gave yesterday

Hi All,
I gave my GRE yesterday n i got a score of 1280.
Firstly im a bit upset by this score 'coz i hv been getting 1340+ in all my tests. My PP1 score was 1340 and PP2 1440. My Quants score were always around 760 - 800

What killed my score?

1) I was over cautious about the first 10 q's in quants and so devoted a huge chunk of my time to them which proved precarious for me.

2) I took the GRE a bit more seriously.

My verbal was not good neways so i was expecting a score of around 550 - 650 and i guess i ended up on the lower side

What i can share from my experience
1) Quants in GRE are tricky they are not tough but just 'coz they r tricky they consume a lot of time. I was running out of time on my last 8 q's and just blindly ticked with little calculation. I am honestly of the belief that in quants what matter the most is the first 10 and the last 10 q's. First 10 decide the slope and last 10 decide where this slope would end.

2) Verbal was simpler for me till the 11 question where i got a 70 line RC which looked simple but the logic was very complicated and i spent a lot of time understanding what it really meant and where was the RC heading. I got 3 RC's. Some of the words were not from Barron's so i advice all those vying for the exams to also refer some other materials.

3) AWA was not much of a swelter so i was comfortably set for both essay and argument.

4) The clock during the GRE ,for me, seemed to move much faster as it would have in any of the mock tests. Mayb due to pressure. So practice, practice n practice more on the timings.

Last but not the least i advice that one shd njoy GRE n not think much about what u would end up getting on the test my mind was pre occupied with what i would score and how i would score. The point is to 'Free Your Mind' as told in Matrix to Neo .

I am vying for a MSIS/MIS/MSIM courses.

I have a work ex of 3.5 yrs in IT coupled with onsite visits.
I wanted to make it to Top 5 colleges (CMU,Kelley,Eller,TAMU,UC) for MIS/MSIS/MSIM im not sure where these scores would take me.
Can any1 advice me if i stand a chance in getting into these colleges with this profile?

My question to you:

Did you see any "unfamiliar" Quant questions?

That is, did you find yourself saying, "Oh yeah, I remember solving a question just like this one", or was it more like, "OK, never seen this, but I know what to do".

Tips to vastly improve verbal (as I have):

My verbal scores were pretty low the first time I took it, no studying. I bought an electronic dictionary and studied every chance I got. It's made a HUGE difference, I'm surprised I haven't seen that tip anywhere else. Make sure you read the thesaurus entry for each word you don't know.

Also try to find well-read colleague with which you can discuss shades of meanings of your new words.

I also did a lot of "speed reading" exercises to raise speed and comprehension. You'll find these in any decent book on-topic, check Amazon.

More of "OK, never seen this, but I know what to do" types

If you haven't already, I would check the admission profiles provided at the Edulix Infobank (first link in my sig).
