Well honestly I can't tell you what will work for English since I'm a native English speaker and my vocabulary was already pretty good before I started preparing. I learned all the words in Barron's word list and I also used dictionary.com's Word of the Day archives. Learning to slow down on the RC's and read the passage carefully also took time.
For math, what helped me most was Barron's review, which was quite thorough and covered just about all the topics that are needed for GRE. Barron's has a lot of practice problems also. The practice on Barron's was most similar to what I encountered on the GRE. The TM archives also have lots of practice problems. My speed wasn't quite up to par in math and I had to guess a lot towards the end, but still ended up with a 750, not a top score but respectable. |

I found Barron's most helpful.
Kaplan's had a few formulas and shortcuts, even though I did not actually need to use any of them for the real test. I borrowed Princeton Review from the library but it was the least helpful of the three. Reading the archives of the boards helped a lot too as there were lots of different problems and exercises. |

I prepped for about 4 weeks. My baseline in verbal was already good and I only needed to study about 5% of the words in Barron's. My math was much weaker. My first practice test before I started to prepare was in the 500's. With preparation and practice I was able to get up to 750. Most of my prep involved going through the exercises in Barron's book. I highly recommend it as it is very thorough and just about everything you need to know is in there. The math section of this board also has many different practice problems that are similar to GRE questions, although questions on this board are weighted towards probabilities and permutations, which I did not see much of on my GRE. I saw a LOT of Geometry.
