Question about retake
Hi, I took the GRE on Saturday (V670; Q610) and I reported my scores to 4 universities. I am probably going to re-take it in an attempt to improve my Q score. My question is: What if my scores do not improve? At the end of the exam, after I see my scores, can I choose NOT to report them to any universities? In other words, is it possible for the universities to only receive my original scores if I chose not to report retake scores?
Also, I took the exam Sept 13. Is it possible for my to retake it as soon as October 1? |

No- if you see your scores.. they will be reported to the universities... but if before seeing your scores... you cancel them.. then only previous scores will be reported.
yes its possible to re - take the exam as soon as 1st oct |

Okay, so even if I don't specify universities again on the retake, the scores will still be sent to the universities I specified on my original attempt? Ugh, that seems unfair. You would think you would at least have the choice of whether or not to report the retake scores.
Thanks. |

Yes - if u have taken the GRE date.. the scores of your previous tests will not be sent until you take the GRE...
if you do not take the GRE date till say 2-3 weeks.. the scores will be sent.. (normal procedure).. and if you take GRE date then (after 2-3 weeks).. and dont specify the universities.. I dont know if they will send the scores to the prevoiously specifed univs. |

even i plan to retake my gre. I wanted to know whether the previous score also appears on the new score card after my second attempt? and is it true that the universities consider and average of the scores or is the higher score considered?

Hi Rhonechica, yes you can give GRE once again, but my question to you is are the Univs that you applied/applying to need higher scores than what you have already got. In my view the 1280 that you have is quite good unless you are aiming for the top 25-30 univs. So just check out and see if the schools would accept you already with the same scores, infact i have heard of people getting full fee waiver/scholarship at your score levels. Then again this is my opinion and infact if you have already decided about giving the test once again, my best wishes are with you and this time try scoring much higher

Okay, well I called ETS to get a definite answer about the retake question. If I retake the exam in October, I can choose to see my scores but not send them to any universities. In other words, if my scores decrease from my initial attempt, I can choose not to send them on to any universities and the universities will only receive my initial scores (which I already sent). However, IF I ever choose to re-send a score report or send score report to other universities, that score report would include reported scores from ALL attempts. This makes sense to me. I am going to retake in October and see what I get and go from there....
MonaD, thank you for you nice words about my scores. I am pleased with my verbal but ran out of time on the quant and am very disappointed with my score. I was hoping for something closer to 700... |
