Dissapointed from this overall!
Hi guys;
I got my score today, and i am dissapointed to say that i didn;t get the required points to apply to Teacher's College Evalutaion Program I got 104, with Reading 25, Listening 25, Speaking 29 and Writing 25! They need 103, with Read 24, Lsitening 24, Speaking 28 and Writing 28!Last time i got 113, out of which Raeding and Writing 29, Speaking 27 and Writing 29. For one point on the speaking THEY DID NOT accept my results. I am a little surprised as i really practiced so much, and felt very prepared, but got less this time, which proves that it is ALL LUCK!!! It has nothing to do with how you speak English! Everyone that have heard me, tell me that i speak like a native person, but still here i cannot get it, and i am really not going to do it, as i don;t have money to just give continously for the TOEFL. I know so many people cannot get to the Teacher;s college because of the TOEFL. I did not believe them, and now i do. Anyhow i got such a stupid topic on the writing section, something like: do u agree or disagree that in today;s world people should not be polite to each other!!!! Sorry guys for venting, i just think they are rip-off artists and this system of evlauting one;s Englsih is not good at all. ![]() Thanks and good luck. |

hi, I feel the same. I did not pass my speaking section...I got 24 :-( Last time I got 26 and I think that this time my performance was much better...not for them. I am not sure if anyone checked my speaking part...they gave me 2.5-3 for q3,4,5,6. I just cannot believe it! The saddest part is that in q1,2 they wrote that my speech was very good and fluent; grammar and intonation very good. In q3,4,5,6 they wrote that bad pronunciation and intonation caused difficulties for a listener... is it a kind of joke? How could I change my pronunciation from very good to bad...ETS sucks!

I really feel for you Kierra. Consult the book The Princeton Review on toefl Ibt and use their template and you can make 30 in writing. I also wrote toefl the same day you did which was on 10th October. I agree our writing topic was weird, I made 27 in Writing and 26 in Speaking. But in my last test, I made 24 in Speaking and 30 in writing. So you can make 30 in writing, it is possible.

That is just completely ridiculous for any program anywhere to reject a candidate with a score of 113 and scores of 27 in speaking and 29 in writing. Absolutely ridiculous. I'm flabbergasted. If you PM me, I'd like to write about your situation on my blog. Posting about this sort of thing CAN make a difference, as schools in particular don't like to see a lot of negative comments appearing about their programs on the Internet. I have to ask the question: when schools ask for scores this high, are they really pursuing excellence, or just doing their best to exclude/discourage non-native speakers from their programs? I really feel for your situation. PM me if there is anything I can do to help. All the best, ~ Jason

Hi Kierra! Your results are incredable! I'm wondering when did Ontario College of Teachers update their language requirements last time? I live in Alberta, another province in Canada, and also is in the same struggle; however, Alberta Teacher Certification division updates these requirements regularly. For example, in 2006 they asked for 24R, 27L, 27S, and 24W but now it's only 23R, 23L, 27S, and 25W. Your break down looks like you satisfy to Alberta's teaching certificate prerequisits. I have been struggling for the teaching licence since 2006 here and could not beat this bamboozling Speaking better then 24. (( Tomorrow is my next try. I wish myself to stay cool.
In your case I would suggest to appeal you mark either with ETS or you may just to talk to an Ontario College of Teachers executive to advocate yourself. |

Thanks to you all for your kinds words and compassion. I was amazed myself, as i consider myself to be fluent in English,. And unfortunately the requiremnets are too high even for native English speakers. I guess it is more a test of intellegence, but again, i got different results, so it is luck also.
Pembina, lucky you for being there. It is so hard here. You know i called OCT twice after the first results and they said no, we need the exact minimum points, ha as if someone will make maximum (well maybe..) Anyhow, really don;t know what to do, i am here also since 2006 but waited for my PR status 2,5 years and did not have the right to apply for evaluation of my teaching certificate. I wish you the best of luck. Inform me of what you did. |

it is also worth to mention the fact that after 2 months of having my online scores I havent got my paper scores yet, scores that I need to submit asap, it is also ludicrous that they prefer to mail your paper scores via a cheap and not reliable way (no way to track your delivery) instead of just e-mail a scanned version and have it quickly, anyhow I hope to get it in the coming days
