113 ciao toefl
I just got my score 113
R29-L28-S29-W27 ![]() I am really happy mainly because it is balanced score (all above 26) I know that each one has different strengths and weaknesses but some might found something interesting in my experience. My preparation: - I am not a native speaker. I am french but lived in several european cities where I worked mainly in english. - Bought the Barron's with 7 mock tests took one without any prep. My weakness was speaking (Barron's test doesn't score the speaking part but I could clearly hear myself. It was crap) I did not have a hard time with the reading since I just took the gmat which is even harder (710 with Q48V39 Essays 5.5/6). Listening was mainly a question of focus and good note taking. I recommand to practice and learn how to select what to include in you note. there is a pattern in toefl questions (they like lists for example, e.g. X has 3 reasons a,b,c...). - I went then trough the book to understand the format of the exam (one afternoon) - I spend 1 hours studying every night during the two weeks before the exam. With a focus on speaking. I used my webcam to record myself (very very very usefull to clearly see your weaknesses) and practiced under time condition. You find a lot of material on internet (youtube). It helped me a lot. Especially one guy (type in the youtube search bar: toefl notefull) The first days I was either too fast (blank during the last 15sec) or I was getting confused or too long (a NIGHTMARE )...So here I really recommand a regular practice. you see the improvements really quickly. Speaking in 60 second is a format i was not familiar with but you get quickly used to it.I strongly recommend to take one of the official practice test from ets. They helped me to be familiar with the exact format of the exam (even if Barron's are quite similar) because that reduces extremely the stress on exam day.I strongly believe that the main success factor on exam day is stress management. After all the questions are not that hard but you are required to keep the pace for a couple of hours. ![]() I think I underestimated the writing. I just checked quickly the requirements and followed one rule I found on this forum "the longer the better" (I wrote 400-500 words by essay). I structured them with intro-part 1-2-3- conclusion and took 2 minutes to check the grammar/spelling mistakes. But since I did not get my essays reviewed during my study I did not really know my weaknesses. So I recommend to find a way to get your essay reviewed. So now I am done with the toefl. I am applying to several mba programms. The minimum requirements was 100. So it should be ok. Thanks a lot for your help. For the gmat and the toefl I used this forum and I believe it was a great help. You can read the experiences of other test takers, ask questions, adapt your study plan, find the best study material and last but not least maintain your motivation. ![]() So thanks and good luck to the ones still studying. ![]() Last edited by wazemmes : 2009 November 7th at 11:01 PM. |

If you were for studying somewhere else but English speaking language's countries, and you want to get credits for your license, one of the requirements in the process of applications is to send the Toefl score, no matter what you where born in US, England, Australia, Canada, etc. Examples of licenses: doctor, pharmacologist, dentist. Anyway, Good luck with the test... ![]() |
