    Where are the best schools?

    Hi,

This may sound very ignorant of me, but how do you find out what the best law schools are? or the best schools in general? does it really make a lot of difference where you recieve your degree?

    It depends.

If you just want to be a lawyer, open your own shop, and do your thing -- or if your parents are attorneys and are willing to bring you into their firm or something like that -- then no, it doesn't really matter where you go to school as long as it's ABA accredited.

If you want to work at a large firm, at a District Attorney's office, or any sort of "prestige" spot (maybe with the ACLU or the DoJ or the EPA) then where you went to school is WAY important.

Look at the US News & World Report Rankings. Don't pay attention to the actual numbers, just look at the top 30 schools.... those are your really good ones.

Look at the next 40 or so. Those are the pretty decent ones.

If you want to work for a high end firm like Skadden, Cravath, etc. -- you need to concentrate on the top 20.

If you want to be a professor -- the top 6 or 7.

    Best of luck.

Advise To A Forieng Lawyer Wants To Practice In The States

    HI GUYS (lawyers and students),

It happened that I am reading some of the feedbacks from the Pharmacy forum and I saw this thread. I am a wife of a lawyer and we want to move to the states. What do you recommend for my husband what to do first in order to practice law. I know it is the same with us Pharmacist we have to undergo documents evaluation, series of exams. I do hope you could help us with this matter. I will really appreciate it. Million thanks.

    Thanks for the info

    Hi Acrimone and Tatertot,

Thanks for the info I really appreciated it. I have another question, is there an examination for international law? Do you guys have an idea where to ask info about Board of Law. In pharmacy we have this NABP, it is a National Board of Pharmacy where we can have our documents evaluated if our education is equivalent to U.S. standard. Thanks again in advance.
