Why don't we introduce ourselves?

I'm from Virginia, just outside of Washington, D.C.

I graduated from George Mason University in Virginia in 1990 or so (I can't really remember anymore) and worked as a waiter and bartender in DuPont Circle to make some money to travel all over the world.

I ended up staying in Europe, in Switzerland, Hungary, Romania, Spain, and France for six months. I then went to Rio de Janeiro, where I ended up staying for about three years.

When I came back to the States, I chose to live in my favorite city in the US--San Francisco.

So, that's me, Erin. What about you guys?

I can't wait to hear!

Hm... Erin you are always full of ideas. Correction: interesting ideas

I'm Renata from Lithuania (look at the map in the North Europe by Baltic sea). My country is very small and very young (11 years old, younger than me (17) ). Our present day is very miserable, but our history is very great. About 600 years ago my country was the bigest country in Europe...

On September 1st, 2002, I'll begin my final year at high school. After the high school I want to study in the USA, NY, where my sister lives. So I have to prepare for my toefl, but I'm very lazy so I only read and write posts on this forum. Besides, I need score only about 170. I'a going to enroll to Baruch college, NYCU. I would like to study at New York University, but it's to expensive for me, also I wouldn't pass SAT test, which they require. But I don't worry about enrollment, I worry about the visa. I found your site while I was in the USA visiting my sister and learning English at language school (so I had f-1 visa). I went to embassy two times to get the visa. First time I was denied. Second time I got the visa only because I was the last person that day and that person who gives visas was too tired to look for exuces to not give me the visa. Next year, I'm so sure, I won't get the visa, because I will travel to US not for 1 mounth but for 4 years!

That's my story. I hope it wasn't boring or tedious. I hope my english is good enough to clearly understand me.

Mark Twain is reputed to have said "The coldest winter I ever spent was summer in San Francisco."

I grew up in the suburbs of Washington, D.C., so I'm too familiar with the East Coast weather, particularly the hot and humid summers and the bitter cold winters. I do, however, love the fall, and really miss not having a fall out here.

Today it's foggy and chilly, as usual. Out here, we say that we experience all four seasons in one day--cold in the morning, warmer as the day goes on, sometimes hot in the afternoons, then cold again.

San Francisco is also very interesting in that it has what we call "microclimates." For example, it can be foggy, cold, and windy at Ocean Beach, but sunny and hot in the Mission District, all on the same day.

I love this city!

Hey!

I forgot that you live in San Francisco. I was there 5 days ago! I traveled from New York to Okland and then by car to LA and then back to NY.

Well, SF is really cold and misty city. I liked that clouds were very low and moved very fast. But wind ... it was so cold, that I didn't walk on Golden Gate Bridge.

In SF I visited pier 39 (it's just very pity that there were only a few seals), Golden Gate Bridge (I took only several pictures) and Alkatraz island (I liked it very very much).

I liked SF better that LA, because LA is the way too big. I liked SF better than Washington, because Washington is a museum of very important building. But I don't know which I like better NY or SF.

So... I just wanted to say that I also was there and I know what are you talking about! And me head is stil full of memories from California.

Hi!

This is Bilal Iqbal. I am 17 years old and have been living in Islamabad, Pakistan all those years.;-) Anyway, I had a chance to visit UK last year to attend my cousin's wedding.

I have completed my 1st year (11th Grade) and am waiting for the result. Apart from this, I love computers and have been using computers seriously right from the age of 11. I have the honor of holding 17 computer certifications from different companies like Microsoft, Cisco, CIW etc. I have recently applied in a US University and fortunately got admission in their accelerated program. I appeared in SAT I and TOEFL exams for getting admission in the said university. I was unable to prepare for both the exams due to lack of time. I only gave a few hours to their preparation. I got 260 in my TOEFL exam and got good score in MATHEMATICS SECTION of SAT I but I didn't get a very good verbal score as I was unable to do vocabulary building exercises before the exam but the university still accepted my admission as I met their requirements. Now my VISA has been refused and have submitted an appeal. My whole career depends upon the decision which is to be taken by the embassy. Just hoping for the best.:-)

Thanks and Bye!

Lost Soldier.

Hi Ahmed,

The university which has accepted my admission is Clarkson University. They will enroll me in their division called The Clarkson School where I will complete my first year of studies. After this, I will be left with 3 more years of engineering and I will be given a choice either to continue my education at Clarkson or transfer my credits to some other university.

I have submitted my appeal against the decision and am hoping to get a positive response. If I can't make it this time, I think I won't be able to get it next time too because when they put a rejection stamp at the Passport Book then there are very less chances of getting the VISA next time. Please remember me in your prayers.

Thanks and Bye!

Lost Soldier.
