Hmmm... Very interesting...
Any chance of changing our conditions? Or does fortune 'doom' us to our fate?
Any ideas??

Once upon a time a farmer was sowing seeds. He handfully took seeds and threw them over the well digged ground with the thought of getting heavy crop.
Two nice and sound seeds were adjacent to each other when the farmer seized and threw them as the others. One of the two seeds fell on the fertile ground, but the other on the ground, which was stony and not properly digged.
A few weeks later the farmer's labor came into reality. The seeds became little lovely grasses. The first seed, which fell on the fertile ground, grew enough well. It was tall and green and looked so nice. It was tenderly and carelessly streaming in the light summer wind.
The second seed became weak and yellow grass. The light summer wind, which was the way to demonstrate beauty and sound of the first grass, was only bitter enemy for her. She felt cold even in that mild summer day.
The story of the two seeds reminds the fate of human-beings. They also unwillingly come into the world and namely the time and the place of their birth determine mostly their fortune.
With best regard
Gunay

I believe in intelligence rather than fate or fortune....I guess the decisions that we take decide our future (I dont remember the exact phrase, but, there is something to this effect mentioned in one of my alltime favorite movies "Back to the Future" (In the third and final part, the scientist mentions something like this). But some might say that its fate which makes us take a decision...So practically its like the chicken and egg situation.....
To one his/her own....

Out here in India, Palmistry, an art or practice of divining or telling fortunes, or of judging of character, by the lines and marks in the palm of the hand, is a widely used tool in determining Fate or Fortune. It makes me wonder... if this science is logical or superstitious.
I think... emotional intelligence can help us improve our survival potential. One thing I'm learning is 'choice'. Looking back in retrospect, for an important part of my life, I found mySelf in a catch 22 situation. No need to blame Fate now [B)] Finding a choice strengthens the decisions we make in our lives.

Life is bit like a CBT standardised exam. You have no control over what choices are presented to you. That's fate. There's also no correct answer. However, like in CBT, the choice you make on a question will determine the choices presented to you for the question that follow.Originally posted by Anghellix

Now the question is, what determines what choice you make? Do we really have freedom of thought? Or are our choices predetermined?
If we take consciousness to be a series of electro-chemical reactions, then sadly, our fates are sealed. However, if consciousness is a process detached from the physical hardware, as it were, then maybe we have free will.
This is the whole premise of the film Matrix trilogy.
