I've never heard of the GRE being accepted for an MBA program. You might be able to find the odd school that will take it, but it's very, very rare.
Take the GMAT because you will have far more schools to which you can apply. If you take the GRE you might be narrowed down to one or two schools, and probably not very reputable ones.

OK, I know the whole GRE-for-MBA programs is relatively new but can anyone correlate GRE to GMAT scores? I received a GRE score 670 V, 770 V, 5.5 AWA....would this (along with a relatively strong application) make me competitive for a Tier 1 MBA program (read: MIT, Cal, Yale, Wharton, etc.)?
In essence, is a 1440 GRE similar to a 720 GMAT? Thanks! - AFB |

Hi AFB, not sure if what OBE means so you may have already found the answer, but I did find this GRE vs. GMAT comparison tool from ETS:
http://www.ets.org/gre/2008/9934/tool.html You and I have similar scores, I think - mine was 670Q, 760V, 6.0 - and similar hopes for top-tier MBA programs. If you hear anything more about the likelihood of getting into those schools, I'd be grateful if you could send that info my way. Thanks! |

Psychicle -
I submitted my GRE scores to round 1 of HBS. I just received notification that they would like me to interview in person. It's not an offer of admission but it's a good shot. So far, the GRE scores seem to be OK. I'll let you know how things turn out. - AFB |

Hey AFB,
I am in the same boat as you in terms of GRE score, but I decided not to apply to any of the top 10 B-schools that accept the GRE because I felt the rest of my application is not as glamarous as what is typically expected. It is a good sign that HBS called you for an interview. Would you be able to share more about your profile (did you have some show-stopper extra-curricular activities or killer work experience)? I think a lot of us would love to be in your position right now, so if you could share some profile without revealing too much that would be much appreciated. THanks! |
