Hello all,
I'm hoping to hear everyone's opinion on a question of mine about choosing majors. I'm currently deciding between Economics and Psychology + Social Behavior as a major... I go to UC Irvine and and have a 3.7 GPA. I've taken classes in both... Psych has been great but Economics isn't as interesting as I thought it'd be, it's a lot more math-oriented than I expected... with it, my GPA will definitely drop. Conversely, if I do Psychology I'm fairly certain I'll be able to raise my GPA. I'm very interested in getting an MBA eventually, so basically my question is: What would be "worth" more for business school admissions, an Economics major (which I've heard is useful because of the related quantitative/analytical background it provides)-- with a lower GPA (optimistically, a 3.5), or a Psychology major with a Management minor, and a higher GPA (again optimistically, 3.8)? I figure the Management minor will help my chances a little but is that and a higher GPA enough to offset my major being somewhat unrelated? Or is a major in a closely related field the best bet? Thanks for any response, even if you don't have a strong opinion I'd like to hear it. I'm pretty conflicted so anything could help. |
