    Top 10 Schools

    Hi, any advice is appreciated...

I wasn't planning to apply for any of the top 10 b-schools, but after getting my results from the GMAT (740), thought that I'd give it a go. Here is the problem: My undergrad results are crappy..about 3.1, how much impact will this have on my application to the top 10 schools? Am I out of luck?

No. You can use your GMAT score as a counterweight to your relatively low GPA (which happens to be on the low end of the middle 80% at the top 10 schools). That's the easy part. The hard part is the rest of your application -- job experience, extracurriculars, ESSAYS, interviews, etc.

So - you're definitely still in the running. Just make sure the rest of your package is great.

What do you guys think about a crappy GMAT score but an excellent GPA with National Honors standing?

    Stormgal,
Without claming any level of expertise here, I'd say shoot for your dream schools. The gmat is only a part of your app, and we all know that. The way you present yourself can mean much, much more.
When did you take the test and what was your score?
Also, since we're in the same area, which schools are you considering?
Best of luck with your app,
    A.

Thank you, amanuel777 for you encouraging words. But the truth is that if I get rejected, I will feel very bad because I'm only trying to get into one school that offers the program that I really want to be in, so I have to make the best of it..

You'll feel worse if you don't try to get in and wonder what would have happened if you gave it a chance.
