Thirty-four is hardly too old to apply for an MBA program. I think the average age is a bit younger, but there are many people in their thirties who are getting their MBA's and EMBA's. I've coached many, many students in their thirties who've gotten into good programs!

A lot of your info looks pretty good and will help you, but you will need to compensate for some of the areas that are lacking (experience, grades) with better performance in other areas. Diversity is always a good thing, but I've unfortunately also seen that a lot of adcoms have a kind of quota for the number of internationals that they will admit, so unless you're a US resident, you'll be competing with other internationals. And that competition can be fierce.

As for which school to apply to--my standard advice is to go to the best school possible. Nobody ever says I regret going to Harvard!!

TOEFL--probably not, but you'll need to check with each university to confirm.

Sorry for the late reply, Steve.

From what I've seen from my students, you will need to explain why you are not working right now. Many of my students have taken courses before applying, but for some reason, this doesn't seem to impress many of the better programs, I guess because they simply have the option of choosing those who already have those courses under their belts.

So, if you're lacking in Stats, Econ, Finance, or whatever, and you have the time, yes it won't hurt you to take the classes, and may make the difference between getting in and getting dinged, but it's still going to be an uphill battle at the better schools. Especially this year--it's turning out to be a hard one!

Erin, could you elaborate on your statement above? What would qualify as "under their belts" as opposed to "taken courses before applying"? Thanks.
