Saritthe,
Firstly, please take my views with a pinch of salt, as I might be biased (seeing that I too am a Thunderbird Admit for this coming Fall). But it all bolis down to your MBA Selection Criteria. If you're the type that places first priority on Overall Rankings (e.g. the Financial Times Top 100), then you should take Georgetown. Between the three, Georgetown has attained the best overall rankings, hence would probably carry the best overall brand. Assuming your first priority is the specialization of International Business, then opt for Thunderbird. Based on the Specialty Rankings for International Business, Thunderbird has been ranked No.1 for the past 10 years by U.S. News and has been ranked No. 1 for the past 5 years by Wall Street Journal. Based on the U.S. News Specialty Ranking for International, South Carolina is ranked No.2, while Georgetown is ranked No. 15. Also, assuming that you are interested in International Business, it's also important to look at the program content. In my opinion, T-Bird's Winterim Programs and Modules Abroad Programs in Africa, South America and Europe look a lot more comprehensive than Georgetown's Global Intergrative Experience. South Carolina's curriculum is very, very similar to T-Bird. In fact, it was modelled after T-Bird (with the emphasis on their students' immersion in the languages, cultures of other countries). So you might have to spend more money on all the global travelling, but I think it would be a very solid experience in International Business. Also, if one person can take Thunderbird to greater heights, it would definitely be the new president, Dr Angel Cabrera. He managed to transform his former school (Empresa in Spain to become one of the top b-schools in Europe). In fact, the World Economic Forum just named him one of the Young Global Leaders for 2005. So, it all boils down to your selection criteria I guess. Thunderbird will most definitely not give you the prestige of schools like Wharton and Harvard, but I certainly do not believe that it is a "joke" (as so kindly put by some people) either. |

Thx for your great recommendation Skytrax!! You research a lot like me. I'm wondering why you know insight about South Carolina and Georgetown, which is 34th in Usnews. Maybe, you're also select these school? Anyway, what is your nationality? I'm from Thailand and want to pursue career path in doing business in China. So, I think I should select South Carolina(moore) bcos I could have an opportunity to study a third language(Chinese) and intern in China around 18 months. This is the good match for my goal without concerning Ranking. However, I still havn't refused T-bird since it is 1st in IB for 10 years and I can graduate within one and a half year as you said.
Which University have you been accepted besides T-bird? Tell me some. Again, thx very much and hope you good luck for your study. Thx for Gmatbong as well for your recommendation. Last edited by saritthe : 2006 April 26th at 10:10 AM. Reason: Automerged post |

Saritthe,
Well, I know insights about those schools because like you, I am very, very interested to study IB and I also research a lot. Basically, I researched schools that have strong IB reputations. Which is why I went to Georgetown, South Carolina etc. webiste. I also extensively read articles on IB from BusinessWeek, US News and Career Journal. But yes, I totally agree with you. If the program content best suits your needs and career objectives, then you should definitely choose that program. And South Carolina seems to suit your area of interest, which is China. In terms of Unis, believe it or not, T-Bird is the only US school that I applied. Because of my IB interest, my choice of schools was spread out among various countries like Australia, United Kingdom and some European schools. Anyway, all the best in your studies and hope you'll have a great time in B-school. |

@saritthe - Thunderbird is a joke. Seriously. Don't even think about it. Keep off.
@skytrax - Even a mid-tier school does better job overall than T-Bird in international business. It is in the business of just fooling people around and ultimately succeeds in getting some slaughter heads.

kindergartenkid,
You're entitled to your opinion as I am to mine. And once again, in my opinion, I still believe that T-Bird is the best at handling IB. And as for your "mid-tier schools can handle it better" .... and you know this...how? You see, I'm an objective person. For example, look at how I responded to saritthe. Saritthe feels that South Carolina is better at IB cause the China focus is more solid. And I advised Saritthe, go for South Carolina. Cause obviously Saritthe has researched the facts on all IB schools and had made an informed decision. Did you do any research on IB? If I were to ask you to discuss with me on the pros and cons of T-Bird's Winterim programs as opposed to the 4 stage Global Intergrative Experiences at Georgetown, would you even know what a Winterim is? If I were to ask you to talk about the Global Academic Travel Experience ( GATE) programs at Duke University and the CMBA/JMBA programs at the University of Hawaii, would you be able to? If you actually researched, then I respect your opinion. However, irregardless of your opinion, it wouldn't hurt to express it with a little bit of respect. (referring to "It is in the business of just fooling people around and ultimately succeeds in getting some slaughter heads"). I don't even know what's the relevance of that line. I know of people who are sacrificing their employment income, time, money, and uprooting their families to attend that school. Even if you think the school sucks, where do you get off labelling these people as slaughter heads? Are you paying for their tuition fees? |

I don't have any personal student contacts at T-Bird and had not researched enough into IntBus to provide insights for you but please read more about T-bird from BusWeek before deciding:
Please read up article at Bschool forum at Businessweek: http://www.businessweek.com/bschools/content/nov2005/bs20051122_1524_bs001.htm and http://forums.businessweek.com/n/pfx...es&msg=68644.1 I know how hard it is for international to get a job so you really need to be careful when selecting schools. And BTW, if you are interested in IntBus, even some non-MBA school might get you where you wanted. Have you look at Kennedy school at Harvard for its ID program or Harris school at UChi? While they are Int. Affair or Int. Dev. programs, they provide the framework you needed to be successful in international business setting and big consultant firms M/B/B regularly hired from these places to do strategic consultant for other countries. One more point, don't join a US porgram because they promise you that you can learn a language in say, Chinese. Just enroll in Beijing language institute in Beijing and learn it there by yourself. You will save a lot of $$ and learn the real thing. Last edited by GMATbong : 2006 April 30th at 12:30 PM. Reason: Automerged post |
