Hult - the other H in Cambridge
Quote:
I'm from Hult right now. It's a boutique school targeting international students as its base because it has a more global perspective. The name change from Arthur D Little School of Management (ADL SOM) to Hult International Business School (HIBS) caused some of the branding associated with ADL SOM to be lost. Despite that, we're working very hard to raise the profile of Hult in Boston and the US. It's funny that Hult is better known around the MBA fare circuit because its 1 year program comes across as more relevant. Unfortunately, the branding of the MBA matters much more than the quality of the education. I can openheartedly vouch that the smaller class means much better quality of contact with professors - this makes a huge difference to non-US students who're getting acquainted with the manner of learning here in the US. These professors are usually also teaching at other schools in Boston and elsewhere (Harvard, Insead, Boston College, Northeastern) as well as working as consultants and entrepreneurs right now (as opposed to tenured professors). My MBA has a finance focus. I'm in my final module (there are 3 over the 12 months). Of the 4 electives I'm doing, 2 are at Hult and 2 are at Boston College (an arrangement between the schools). My 2 professors here are Indra Guertler and Wes Marple, teaching Financial Modelling and Investment Banking respectively. They're good teachers (Guertler especially!!) and made a big difference to me - especially since I'm transitioning from the IT industry to the Investments field. As for Boston denizens not knowing about Hult, it's natural when you're 'competing' against Harvard and MIT. Coupled with the name change, the Hult administration has been working very hard the last 3 years to get visibility for the school. Most recent ranking addition is accreditation by a London agency that will include us in the next FT rankings. Unfortunately, an MBA is a commodity. If you have the money and time, Harvard, Stanford, Chicago GSB, etc are where you ought to go. You'll have a good network and good placement opportunities. If you're like me ($$ and time constrained), Hult is a good choice. If you have questions, drop me an email and get feedback from the horse's mouth. PS - Hult expects to open campuses in Dubai and London too, to allow the cross campus experiences similar to Insead. Following best practices is always a good sign. Cheers! V |

I would also like to share that when I was trying to find out more about Hult, it was worrying about how little I could find. When I asked a few well-placed sources (non-US), they'd heard of it under its previous name (Arthur D Little School of Management). Regardless, I'd done my due diligence on the professors and knew it would be a good learning experience.
It was especially critical that I plan to operate my future business across borders in a big way, and the internationally well-placed alumni appeared very useful for me. Hope this reply helps. Cheers! V |

Hi all,
I will like to know how good is the placement for consulting companies like Mckinsey, bain & co, etc. I have reserved my seat in HULT for January 2008 session. I want to join HULT cos, I want to shift my career from Software industry to Consulting/business development. My profile is Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical & Electronics) currently working in UK as software engineer [4yr+ exp] [I also have a degree of PGDM-HRD/PM]. por favor, El Seņor throw some lights on my query. regards. I am pretty positive M/B/B don't recruit there at all. Even Babson they don't recruit there, let alone Hult.
Reality check: Your chances of heading to Mck,Bain,BCG after Hult with IT background is virtually zero. |
