Re: Ask AdmissionsConsultants
Hi David,
Thanks for spending so much time replying the messages. I'd really appreciate your insight on my chance on getting into Harvard, Wharton, or MIT given my profile. If it is going to be a stretch, what's the next best school that you'd recommend. 1. Undergrad: University of Texas, Austin. Major: Computer Sciences GPA: 3.65 2. GMAT: 740 (one attempt) Quant: 95% Verbal: 91% (I'm Asian American) 3. Working Experience: 5 Yrs. eBiz consulting, web development, health industry. From newbie to tech lead. 4. Extra curriculum: Treasure assistant with Asian Chamber of Commerce. 5. Possible wow factors: Finished undergrad in 3 years with an internship at IBM. 11th in Texas UIL math state competition. 1st in the region competition. Thanks for your help. |

Re: Ask AdmissionsConsultants
Hello David,
Here is my profile :- Nationality - Indian GMAT Score - 720 GPA - 3.9 ( Non - IIT but a well known University ) Major - Computer Science and Engineering Plan to apply for fall 2007 Graduated in 2004, so will have 3 years of work - experience by 2007. I currently have nearly one year of work experience in a very good Software R&D firm in Bangalore. I may get a promotion at the end of this. But the trouble is I don't get to interact much with people ( as I am in R&D ) and leading a team in our company is a distant dream. To make my case stronger, I thought of moving over to a new small scale industry that my cousin is planning to open. This will be an Electronics/Electrical industry, nothing to do with Computer Science and Engineering. But I will be in a management position and may be learn a thing or two in manufacturing. Is making the move advisable? Will it reflect badly on my resume? |

There is no truth to this assertion. Indeed, sometimes schools like their graduates to go elsewhere for continued education to give them exposure to different learning models. Additionally, all admissions committees will view a transcript from a program such as Berkeley's MS Engineering similarly. Best of luck with your applications! With well-prepared applications, I see no reason why you can't be competitive at the schools you mentioned. Your career progression, extracurriculars, and academic qualifications all seem to be on par with successful applicants to the top schools. I hope it goes without saying that one aspect of a well-prepared application is ensuring you are a good 'fit' with the target school. Best of luck with your applications! It appears you are well on your way to presenting a competitive candidacy to the top 25 U.S. b-schools. It's beyond the scope of what I can do here on this discussion board, but I'll be glad to assign you to a consultant who can conduct a pre admissions consultation and ensure you optimally position yourself and begin to cultivate a strong 'wow' factor. Best of luck with your applications! Sincerely, David Petersam DPetersam@admissionsconsultants.com 703.242.5885 Admissions committee experience from the top b-schools |
