Hello

Right now I work at a middle market Investment Bank with hopes of getting an MBA from a top school. I went to a good LAC with a 3.8 GPA (Finance major) and I received a 720 on my GMAT. However, I am not really liking IB and I have an offer to do a financial leadership program (2 years) at a corporation, think Lockheed Martin. Now, to get into a top school which is better, doing 2-3 years at an IB or doing 1 year and a 2 year leadership program.

I also figured will doing this program I can do some community service and what not, stuff that is not possible while being at an IB.

What is my best move into getting into a top MBA school like top 5. Or does it not matter? Will leaving an IB program look bad? Please let me know.

Depends if your next IB job is BB or not. But either way, it seems the Leadership program has more merits since you can do some ExtraCurr not possible if you are in IB. Also, how much have you been in that MM IB?

If MBA is your goal, I would do the financial leadership program and do more Community services.

Well I will be at the MM for a full year before leaving. I then wanted to do the leadership position for 2 years with some extra curric and then apply and go back to analytical work after MBA

Do you mean if you don't do the leadership program, you are going for 2 years at MM? If so, go for the leadership instead

I am currently at a MM IB. I am trying to gauge my next steps. It is either stay here for 2-3 years and then apply for an MBA or leave after this year and do the leadership position which is 2 years. I figured if I go to the leadership position it will allow me to do extra currics and round out my experience being that the leadership position is a 8 month rotational program which will give me a lot of experience. One of my worries is if I leave the IB analyst program early (it is 2 years and I will be leaving after 1) it might have a neagtive effect on my MBA chanes at a top 15 program.

It has 0 impact for MBA app. If its between MM or BB, then its more of a draw. If its staying at MM or going for another job then you should just do it. better yet, do the 2 years at leadership pos. and then 1 year at TFA or peace corp.
