GMAT score of 760 with Average Joe profile.

    Hi all,

just took the GMAT and scored 760. Have written a short debrief of my score at http://www.urch.com/forums/just-fini...pt-2007-a.html.

Background: Graduated B.Eng (Electrical) with 2nd class lower in 2004
    Age:28
School activity: nill (wasn't keen to socialise in school, preferring to spend time on the piano)
    Career:
1.5 year: Editor at major publishing company
    0.5 year: Professional pianist/teacher
1.5 year: Computer Engineer at a European MNC.
Now (3 weeks and counting):Quitted job to focus on getting GMAT+MBA

    My current interest:
    Quantitative Finance/Developer

    Masters program targeted:
    Master of Financial Engineering

Strength: Very well-rounded skills in arts, science, maths
Weakness: No prior experience in leadership or any major achievements in career (though I am more than merely competent in each of my jobs).

Can anyone advise me with my background, which are the realistic universities I should aim for? Is the top 10/HSW beyond a regular Joe like me?

    Appreciate any advices here.

If you are targeting financial engineering, you should look at Chicago FE and Columbia or Berkerly FE program. MBA might not be the right path for you if you are looking for quant finance/dev.

    Thanks GMATbong.

Btw, are you working as an admission consultant?
I am interested in getting one, and would like to find out more.

Nope. I am not an admin consultant. I am here to give free but candid advice to others.
If you are interested in admin consultant but for financial engineering schools, I would suggest you NOT to get one. However, if you are still interested in MBA, then my advice will be to get one.

    Ok, interesting. The reason being?
Financial Engineering is not as competitive as B school?

Financial Engineering is not as competitive - correct. Also, Financial Engineering could care less if you do community services or not. Its an academic degree very similar to math. GPA/Testscore matters more.

Hi, This is my first post on the forum. Does quitting job to study for GMAT affect your admission ? If it does, how bad can it get ?

My name's Ashwin am working in Accenture, India from last 2+ years and am now planning to quit my job to prepare for GMAT which is in last week of Dec 2007. Please help me out.

Not a good idea at all. Its best you call in sick rather than quit.
