Profile evaluation and query

HI ,

I wrote the gmat twice, the second attempt got a 680(q49 v32) awa 4
the first time I got a 660 with a similar break up (q49 v32) awa 4.
My c.g.pa is 7.83 and I am a btech in Computer science from top 15 institute
I have 2 years of wrk ex with IBM and basically want to go for non profit mba , plan to wrk with UN and eventually start my own NGO

I am planning to apply to Yale .Kindly let me know if it makes any sense gven my avg score and profile to apply to yale . Also will the gmat score 660 and 680 make a negative impact cause the break up is same although there is an increase of 20 points .Please guide .Also what are the other schools where I can apply for a non profit mba

The v32 will be an issue for any top 15 school including yale. Its not the total score but the break up matters.

My feeling is if you want to go non profit, why don't you just do it now??? Why wait? MBA school is good but not a neccessary step for non profit. Also, if you plan on going to UN, try SAIS, SIPA or KSG, not MBA.

Hi GMATbong

Really appreciate your prompt replies .You are really a great help .
About your question.. I am an indian an here is my experience in Non profit
i) Have my own NGO named Pratigya (Sponsers 2 , 3 schools in india )
ii) Cyber activist for GreenPeace
iii) Adopted child from CRY(NGO in india)

Apart from this I have wrked in IBM for 2 years as SAP consultant . I am presently with Sapient more on a pre sales role . In IBM itself was assosisted with IBM club which sponsored some NGOs as well

On researching a bit I have found a dual degree in M.A. in international relations and MBA from Tuck to be a great combination ...Its a 3 years course . ...As discussed my gmat is 680 (Already a second attempt), which is on a lower side as compared to the indian pool .....would appreciate if you could evaluate my chances for the dual course or MPAfrom other schools that you mentioned

IR schools are in a very different game than MBA schools. I would say you have a greater chance getting in an IR school since most students have the same WE as you do. For MBA school, you are still on the young side.

Dual degree is great if you can get into both program. MBA is still harder for you than MPA/ IR schools.
