Reputation and Prospect of Melbourne B-school

I have got an offer from Melbourne Business School(Australia), starting Sep'08. I would like to know its repuataion in the outside world, whether the investment in this 16-20months course is worth? From IT proj mgmt(at present) I wud like to move to Mgmt Consultancy/Strategy Formulation in future. In this career change how effcetive wud MBS be? value addition, Salary hike post-MBA and better outlook are my obj to join MBS. Looking for your valueable suggestion. Good if some MBS student can put some genuine comments. Thanks in advance.

Outside the world meaning in US or Asia? Asia is a little better known but for US and Europe, its virtually unknown.

I think the key issue is, does Mgmt Con. hire from that school? If not, you are wasting your time and money.

Hi Chans

I may be applying to MBS for Fall 08 and have spoken with current students and Alumni of MBS.

1) If you wanna stay in Asia-Pacific or Australia, it is as good as any top US B School. (barring M7 for Asia-pacific minus Australia)

2) Finances are half of what u wud pay in a US B Schools.

3) MBB recruit MBS students but again, toppers only.

The batch size is extremely small, 45. Most students don't opt for Student exchange although MBS has good exchange schools. Life in Melbourne is relaxed and good city to live in.

If you are ambitious sort of guy who wants to be in a very competitive world, then MBS is not the place for you. However, it is the best in Asia Pacific and alumni are doing well in the region.

I am no expert but this is what I have with me. GMATbong, can you pls validate

I agree with tamGmt view. If you are not going to M7+LBS/INSEAD , then go to a local school where you will end up working within the area.

If you are heading to Asia, HKUST/NUS/Tsinghua still beats out school in Aussie. But if you are in Australia, then you should pick MBS. If you are in Japan, even Tokyo U will do the trick.
