Where to apply with a 590?
I just took the test and I'm happy enough with my score as I was shooting for a 600. Where are some schools that I should be looking to apply to... preferably on the west coast or close to it. I sent my scores to U of Oregon, U of Denver, U of Utah, and Case Western in Cleveland for fun. I was also thinking of sending my scores to Rice U. in Houston.
Any other reccomendations? I was a Business Grad from U Washington with 3.2 GPA. Can I go to a top 50 school with my score and not have to retake the GMAT? |

I should mention that I have 4 yrs of work experience in a small start up company in the tech industry that I have been with since it's start. I haven't been too involved with community. I have spent 2 years overseas and speak 2 languages. I am looking to switch professions probably heading towards finance or possibly even accounting from my sales background.
How many schools do most people apply to at once? |

rice has a good reputation in the southerrn and texas region. hpusten has lot of big business and lots of energ firms so employment in that area may be possible. however dont expect big consulting firms to chase u with jobs.
case western is the best univ in the cleveland region so theior placement is pretty decent as local firms do recruit from there. with 600, u should get admisiion there for sure with ur work ex. the other schools u have chosen are local schools and u would have to land jobs in those regions. but in Utah, BYU is better for mba. |

Your could try Georgia State University as well- It has a decent reputation here in Atlanta- Coca Cola, Home Depot, Georgia Pacific, Chick Fila hires GSU graduates. Check out their Global MBA option, with this option you get a MBA degree from GSU and Masters in International Management from Uni of Sorbonne in Paris.

Do they hire MBA grads with a 590 GMAT? I don't know what the job market looks like for a below-average applicant, but I can't imagine that these (sub 600 students) are the GSU placements at Coke, Chik-Fil-A, HD, GP, Bellsouth, Suntrust, etc.

GSU balances low GMAT with quality work experience as they beleive that GMAT is just a part of the entire application and a low GMAT DOES NOT mean that a student is "below average". Yes I know students whom GSU has placed in the companies that I mentioned above as well as in international markets! Not all of these students have very high GMAT scores but they have quality work experience.

shooter,
I am not aware of companies asking for gmat scores while hiring? Except ofcourse for consulting or some finance related jobs. In marketing, gmat is rarely important and I understand even GPA is not asked. Infact many top schools have a grade non disclosure clause...I think Wharton has that. Can any experts give more information on how important gmat/grades in MBA are in non consulting jobs. |

hiya ppl........I have also scored a 590 on the GMAT and am planning to apply to b schools in the U.S/U.K. Other details are as follows:Work Experience - 6 years (2 years in insurance sector and 4 years with family business); 26/f; Academics: Very good ; Extra Cirriculars: Very good....have been extensively involved with facilitating services for the elderly.I'd really appreciate it if you could please go through my profile and tell me which schools I can apply to. (I am looking at specialising in Finance) I would prefer to apply toschool which have a good finance program. Could you also please tell me weather it's better (in terms of job prospects, value for money, location, etc) to apply to schools in the U.K or the U.S. Thanks a ton in advance for your help!!!
