References for MBA application

GMATbong and others, would be grateful for your advice.

As you know, most schools require a reference from two people.

How important is the identity of these people.

I.e. Is there an idea of a "good" reference? If there is, does it have to be someone that is/was your boss or higher up in the chain (e.g. global head, etc) and maybe also in the industry?

Will giving a reference who worked with me on the same rank be considered a good reference?

Many thanks and any advice appreciated.

Good reference are those who worked with you before. Meaning your direct boss for 90% of the cases.

Giving a reference with the same rank is ok but not as well as one from a former boss.

Thumbs up

Another good idea is to use a college professor or someone you know that is successful in the field you're interested in who can address in the recommendation ways in which he/she thinks you would contribute.
