I just submitted my application yesterday for Fall 2004 Evening & Weekend program. I was not really sure how carefully they look at your responses and essays, but did my best.
I am kind of in the dark as far how stringent their admission criterias are. Have a GMAT scheduled for Feb 20. Let's see what happens. Also, in their brochure they said they received 600 or so applications for 2003, of which ~230 students enrolled. However, does anyone know if they accepted 230 out of 600 or they accepted more but only 230 of them decided to join?? |

Hi spoud74,
I too am applying to the Haas E&W MBA program. From what I heard, Haas is increasing their enrollment a bit. Though how much I don’t know.. I know from one year it went from 183 to 240. I am sure the 230 is the total class size upon starting class in the Fall. (just my guess) You can bet that Haas will be VERY stringent with their admissions process. With last years admissions process there were around 900 apps that were received with about 230 candidates being accepted. |

Hi gmatfordays,
Thanks for your response. 230 out of 900 is about 25% acceptance rate which seems stringent but not too stringent for what I consider a top notch program. Let's hope we are counted within the 25%. I live in the bay area and Berkeley is actually the only program I have applied to because of I hold a full time job here. I looked into Stanford and found out that they do not offer a part time program. As far as I know, these are the only prominent MBA programs in this region. Are there any others anyone know about?? |

Hey spoud74,
I am totally in the same boat here. And yes, the acceptance rate is pretty nice, so that makes me feel a bit better about my chances. I too have a full-time job in the bay, in Palo Alto, and so I am looking at Berkeley and Santa Clara. Berkeley being the long shot and Santa Clara being the back-up.. If you want to stay in the bay, then Santa Clara is not all that bad, as most companies hold their MBA program in high regard. A coworker of mine is in their program right now and enjoys it. Though between the two schools I would take Haas or course, assuming that I get accepted! You have some executive MBA programs, such as Wharton, and the Haas/Columbia program. Though throughout the bay, that is really about it. Have you taken the statistics class that Haas requires? Or have you taken Stats within the last 5 years? I am hoping to hit higher than 85% on the GMAT quant in order to waive the Math pre-req as well. |

Hi gmatfordays,
I am thinking about looking at Santa Clara as well as a backup option. As far as statistics, I completed my bachelors in engineering and took only one stat course in '97. Haas probably will not honor it, in which case I'll probably have to take it this summer locally. If they honor it, that would be a relief. By the way, when are you taking your GMAT? Mine is scheduled for Feb 20 and I have yet to start my preparation. |

I will be taking my GMAT on the 30th of Jan.. I have been preping for about 2 months, around 2 to 3 hours a night and 12 hours on weekends. So I hope it pays off, as I am feeling pretty good about my progress.
Make sure to get the Official Guide for the GMAT. That will be your BEST resource for prep. Additionally, refer to this site as MUCH as possible. A wealth of knowledge can be found here. As for the stats class, I think I took it back in '96, so I am pretty much out of luck for that one. |

Did anyone make it to the Haas Evening/Weekend online chat this past Thursday? I could not get into the chat due to network restistrictions at work, so I was a bit bummed that I missed out.
If anyone did make it to the session and remembers any high points, could you post them here? Thanks! |

For all of those applying to the Haas part time program, here is some good info I got from a person that just had their interview.
"The interviewer basically said that they shy away from candidates who have less than the average number of years of work experience. They want to make sure that you can hold your own with other members of your cohort, who might be on the Director, VP and CXO level." The person that reported this to me has around 4 years of experience and the average at Haas is at 7.6. My take on this is to use this as a guideline, not fact. Use it to help frame your essays around maturity, and showcasing your abilities in dealing with higher management. |
