I am from Montreal and have tried to gain some knowledge about HEC Montreal, I went to their annual info conference 2 years in a row.
Since you are from India, the fees are probably around 22k if I remember correctly. Considering that the program is only 1 year, I am pretty sure that it will be less expensive to attend (including living costs) compared to San Diego. I don't even know what Terry is. HEC Montreal seems to have a solid program, and keep in mind that HEC is a french school. The only program that is in english is the MBA program, or should I say one SECTION of the MBA program. Your entire class will be done in english, but you will be taught by francophone teachers. I would dare guess that UCSD has better recognition as a school in general, not regarding MBA programs, and it all depends on where you want to work after the MBA. I personally won't apply to HEC Montreal, I am waitlisted at Cornell right now, and have postponed my MBA project for 2 years. I have a GMAT score around yours, 710. From your choice of schools and your GMAT score I am guessing that tuition fees are important, I would personally attend McGill if I was an international student. Mind you, the HEC Program looks solid and it's one heck of a deal considering their ranking and tuition fees. It's simply not known outside Quebec. |

Hello,
Thanks for your reply. HEC Montréal has waived off the international fee for me which means I only need pay 6K CAD (the Québec fee). UCSD has also given me a great scholarship (USD 42K, almost the whole of tuition fee). Considering the fact that UCSD and Montréal have both given me scholarships, I need to decide on one of them. Terry is University of Georgia. -Sres |

I find it odd that they would waive the international fee. I know that they do so with international students from France, because of special agreements between Quebec and France.
I guess they really liked you and want you to attend. There's also the opportunity cost, as I think that UCSD is 2 years right? But you would get a summer internship which would help if you wanted to change careers. Montreal is a great city, but California is also a great place to be. Hard for me to give you my opinion as I am biased and have no desire to attend HEC at all. But for you, HEC is probably exotic. Georgia..why did you apply there? I've been researching MBA programs for like a year now, and I've never heard of it. |

HEC Montreal is great value for money. US sandiego isnt a top US program and in the US beyond the top 20-30 schools placemtn does get tough for international students who dont have work authoirizartion. that said the US definately has much better opportunities than canada. Due you like snow-then montreal, sun then san diego. technology wise being in california may be good.
Canada has just introduced a 3 yrs post master work authorization which is awesome. the US on the other hand only has one year. ofcourse in 2 years time by the time you gradute things may be differnet€ again. cost wise HEC u save a year. the US MBA is accepted worldwide.. terry is good too..i would think better than san diego. btw with a 700 gmat u could try many other very good schools. |
