How does previous management background affect application?
I have a general questions here: how does having a MS degree in management (from a top European school, say, LSE)affect one's chance
of getting an offer from a top America B-school? Heard people say that admission people seriously don't like this kind of applicants, thinking it would be waste of educational resources. How would you guys comment on that? |

It is a good question.
If a candidate already has a very good masters degree in management from an international school, then why does he need an MBA? After all, there is substantial overlap between the two courses. You better have an excellent reason and an answer for this question. Are you taking full advantage of the MS to further your career now? In my personal opinion, you may not be. You are ahead of the 99.9% of the general population just because of your masters. This empowers you enough to have a stellar career that can take you to the top. If you see yourself constantly trying to obtain academic degrees to further your career, in all probability, you are not aggressive in securing promotions in the current job or being proactive enough in the outside world to grow. Whatever way you feel now, mostly you might feel the same way even after an MBA and a few years into the job. |
