Info reg. Pharmacy Technician/H1b visa
Hi,
I have couple of questions: 1. Do chain pharmacies hire Foreign Pharmacist as a Pharmacy Technician? 2. If they hire, they require all exams i.e. FPGEE, TOEFL, TSE passed with reqd score? 3. Above all, do they sponsor H1b visa to that candidate for Pharmacy Technician position? It would be really a great help for me to get replies from u guys. Thanks a lot. |

1. Yes, if you are a foreign Ph graduate who's a Green Card holder or a US citizen.
2. No, they dont need those scores at all. A ph tech course is a 2-yr U.S. vocation taken after high school. Its not necessary to be a pharmacy graduate at all. But they do hire Ph grads for the matter esp foreigners... Then he/she can take the FPGEE cert to get promoted to intern, then take NAPLEX to become licensed Ph. 3. No, it doesnt require an H1b bcoz its not a professional position. Its only for GC holders or US citizen or those having work permits or SSN. Last edited by lawu2002 : 08-08-2005 at 04:48 PM. |

like i said, a Ph Tech is not a professional position requiring a bachelor's degree. H1b's are issued on professional positions. The INS will not issue an H1b for a technician's position.
before or after any exams, if you are eyeing the Ph Tech position, you can only get hired if you are a foreign GC holder or US citizen or a work permit holder. again, the only foreign Ph graduates who can work as a Ph Tech are those who have GC, are US citizens or have work permits. because, the INS does not issue H1b's for that. so that means, if you are a foreigner that requires an H1b to enter any kind of work, a Ph Tech's position is not possible for you. the intern position is the way to go. i'd like to add:
the "work permit" i'm referring to is the permit given to people at a certain stage of their immigrant status and those foreign F-1 students with internship work permits. i'd like to emphasize: there is no way that a foreign Ph graduate can be issued an H1b by the INS for a Ph Tech position. it doesnt qualify under the definition of "skilled work", "specialty occupation", or "highly specialized knowledge". if some people said they did, then they could be talking about H2b visas - short-term temporary workers. now thats a way different category. they dont necessarily be professionals. http://www.murthy.com/news/UDtempro.html this is no way in offense of the Ph Techs out there. we envy you people for being able to start work as such (sure you guys are on your way up the career ladder). i am just explaining the "immigration issue" on the position. |
