Share your internship experience.
It has been 3 month since i started my intership at CVS.But I am stack at pick up and drivethrough. becuase that is where they assign me everyday. I am a beat concerned not to spend the 1500hr in areas which are less relevant to being expert on drugs (pharmacist) . What do you guys advice me shall I talk to my supervisor or be patient and work my way up. They are not giving me the chance to work as a graduate intern.
Please say a word ,your response is greatly appreciated. Hewi Last edited by hewi : 2008 February 14th at 07:22 PM. |

hi,
Same was my internship experience when I first started. Nobody will allow you to fill or work in the drop off window unless you say so. You have to stand for yourself and talk to your supervisor. If you dont you'll never learn!!! and there is lots to learn. |

Guys! I want to know the responsibilities of an intern.I mean, what interns are suuposed to learn and do in a community pharmacy?? how tough is it in the begining? As we are completely new in US pharmacy system, how hard is it at first? As we don't know about US trade names, it is though?? I am staring my internship from Mid March '08 in a community pharmacy and I want to know your experiences. Please share your experiences here.

Hi guys!
I am a silent reader of this forum. I have used this forum to prepair for FPGEE and IBT. And it is very helpful , thanks a lot to all of you guys. Today I would like to share my internship experience with you guys. As many other interns I am also facing the same situation as an intern. I have started my internship 3 weeks back. on my first day, my pharmacy manager asked me to take care of drive thru and pick up section, untill now I am there. I need to ask people's name and give their medicine and take money or credit card . Sometimes I feel like I am in a fast food drive thru. The difference is they give you food without knowing your name, I give them medicine by asking their name. Another thing is, in my place of work all rph and techs are white people and I am the only one foreigner. And sometimes I get hard time understanding a patient's name and whether that is first name or last name. So I ask them to spell their last name for me. It might sound funny to other people in the pharmacy. But without asking spelling it gets hard for me to get their prescription from will call place. So, this is my experience up to now.I will keep you guys updated about intern experience. Please share your experience too inthis link.. Hope |

Hello Friends
I think to have a clarity its good to have a discussion with your manager/ supervisor at the time of the interview..."when they ask you do you have any questions for us in the interview.". i would ask them to tell about how would they go on training a new intern in their pharmcy? When they say about it make a note of it... and ask then if they would evalauate your intern work on monthly intravals... until you become a pharmacist... Other alternative would be .. you can sit with pharmacist and begining of the week/month and work on that week/month objectives...as what you have to learn from the pharmacist.. It would be great if you can forward a monthly report on what you learnt to your supervisor and Pharmacist.. I am sure its a busyw orkplace and everyone would be selfish in there in terms of time.. probably we have to find our solutions... One more tip... Take some donuts and coffee at least once a month... that would work wonders... sometimes Hope it helps! Well I may be wrong... but a good thing to think about! Regards MK |

Hi! I can't share my experience yet but a close friend of mine told me that it was VERY easy to work as a pharm intern. In general she said it was about counting pills and talking to insurance companies. She also said that the hardest part was understanding people's last names and it is exacly what hope08 was talking about. I just hope people won't get mad or act rude at me if I have to ask for their name a second time.
