Math question

Can anyone explain on this math ques?

If wool fat absorbs twice its wt of water, how much additional water will be absorbed by 4000g of hydrous wool fat containing 25% of water?

thanx.

Answer to your question...
4000g of wool fat will absorb 8000g of water (i.e. twice it's wt)
but it already contains 25% of water = 25/100 x 4000g = 1000g
so it will only be able to absorb 8000g - 1000g = 7000g more of water

hope this helps you!

i think you made one mistake. total 8000ml water absorbed by wool fat
and 25% gonna be 25/100 X 8000g= 2000g
so it will be able to absorb 8000g - 2000g= 6000g more water

If the answer is 5000ml then you need to look at the problem this way

The 4000 g of hydrous wool fat is 25% water
4000 X .25 = 1000g of water
Therefore you have 4000 - 1000 = 3000 gram of wool fat with the ability to absorb water
If it absorbs twice its weight then it has the ability to absorb 6000 g of water.
It has already absorbed 1000 g of water so therefore
6000-1000 = 5000 g of water able to be absorbed
