    Smile Internship in Newyork

    Hi,

I have few question about internship in newyork. I cleared my FPGEE and TOEFL and now I am looking for intrnship in NY. When I call to NY pharmacy board they told me that once I clear my NAPLEX then only I can start my internship in NY. How is it possible? because in order to qualify for NAPLEX I have to complete my Intenship hours. I am confused now..If anyone is aware about this pl let le know..And yes, How many hours are needed for internship in NY?

    Thanks in advance
    Regards

    hi heather,

After getting the FPGEC, what should i do next? contact the new york licensing board? are there any requirements in order to apply for the intern permit?
with the FPGEC, do we still have to send in our foreign graduate degree transcripts etc?
Do we need to send in all our registration certificate/license from our home country to the board?

    thanks!

HI EVERYONE, I know it is odd but NEW YORK is one of the very few states who require passing the NAPLEX before allowing you to count your hours as an intern, the intern hours for NEW YORK are 1000 hours, and to apply for the NAPLEX you can find the application form on their website, which requires you to have passed the FPGEE AND TOEFL, they also require a PROOF OF EDUCATION to be filled and sent directly from your school, also NY requires you to pass a compounding test to get registered as a pharmacist in NY . That is every thing I know, you can call the board to inquire about anything. GOOD LUCK

I checked the new york pharmacy board. They require everything marium has posted in the previous reply. How about other states? Are they as complicated as new york?
So I guess I do not have to maintain my registration at my home country in order to register with NY pharmacy board.
    Thanks for all the info!

HI AGAIN, Not all states are complicated as NEW YORK and CALIFORNIA, And for someone who lives outside USA, it can be an advantage to be able to take the NAPLEX while still at your home country and come to USA only to count the intern hours and WOW, YOU ARE A PHARMACIST. A state like NEW JERSEY requires you to pass the FPGEE and the TOEFL to start counting hours as intern(1000 hours) , then you can take the NAPLEX and MPJE and you are done, only NEW YORK requires a compounding test, and I hear that California has a more difficult system, other than that almost all states have the same system as NEW JERSEY but only differ in the intern hours needed(1000 - 2080). GOOD LUCK AND GOD WITH YOU.

    Hello marium
I am just wondering do you have to be a US citizen or a green card holder in order to be registered as a licensed pharmacist in NY?

Read the following instructions for internship in NY:
PHARMACY INTERNSHIP EXPERIENCE LOG FOR THE YEAR ________________
TO BE SUBMITTED WITH FORM 4
ONLY IF THE HOURS WORKED EACH WEEK ARE DIFFERENT

    INSTRUCTIONS
A total of six months consisting of 40-hour credits per 7-day workweek (1040 hours) of supervised
pharmacy internship practice is required for admission to Parts II and III of the New York State
Licensing Examination Series. Twelve months (2080 hours) is required for graduates of nonaccredited
schools. Credit for internship may be concurrent with school enrollment only if six or
fewer semester hours are being taken by the intern
. Confirmation is required from the college
stating the number of credits being taken. On the next page, indicate the number of hours
worked each day (do not indicate time such as 8 am – 5 pm).
Total each column and place a
grand total in the space provided. This form must be signed and dated by both the preceptor and
    the intern.
The intern and preceptor signing this form attest under penalty of perjury that the intern hours
worked and indicated on page 4 of this form are accurate. False or misleading information may
result in disciplinary action being taken against both the intern and preceptor pharmacist.
Is it going to take 12 months for foreign pharmacists to complete internship in NY?

I believe so, because you have to complete 2080 hours so that is more or less 12 months if you are only allowed to work for a 40 hours/week maximum.
