Clumsy: Thanks very much for your quick reply, I really appreciate your help. But my approval period on the approval notice indicate only one year, so I need to enter only one year? I thought the H1b is extendable max to 6 years....just wondering....

Then, you should only indicate 1yr on the form. H1b is really up to 6yrs. But since the approval notice only stated one year, you have to follow that. Anyway, before that 1 yr expires, the employer will be the one to re-apply for the extension.. |

My H1B approval is also for one year.
H1B is renewable for a full term of 6 years. R.Miller said that it is because we do not have SSN. Does this imply going back to home country to restamp after the expiration of the one year when extension is filled for and obtained like any other extension? |

I.E. Your first stamp expires on 01/01/10. If you go to Bermuda on vacation on 02/01/10 you need a valid stamp to come back to the US. If you don't leave the US than your extension docs are all you need. |

Hi guys,
How did you know the length of your H1B visa? Have you already received the visa docs by FEDEX or did RA inform you by email? I was informed that my petition was approved but they didn't tell me the exact dates. Thanks for your replies! |

Mine is for 3yrs.. so, my intended stay will be 3yrs. My sister told me that it's really a matter of luck.. she also got 1 yr b4 along with her friends and she only knew one person from their group who got 3yrs. You are allowed to stay in US as long as the approval notice is extended for certain number of years. Her friends who went home to the Philippines, presented themselves to the US embassy for another visa stamping (based on the new approval notice) but my sister don't have a new visa stamp because she never went out of the US.
