Pharmacist having four year degree from Punjab University Pakistan

Hello,

Does any one graduated with a four year degree after 2003 from Punjab University Pakistan has applied and evaluated their credentials from Educational Credential Evaluators, Inc (ECE) for the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy (NABP)?
What was the result?

Hi Ali,
Sorry to say but you're not qualified for FPGEC. However, there are pharmacy schools that accept foreign credits and they might consider you as a perspective candidate. After you pass exam you might get into the pharmacy school ( second year). In case you don't want to study you might consider a medical researcher career. It will take you only two more years of study.
I hope this info helps.
Good luck.

Well.. Thanks for your reply but that's not true. I know I may not eligible for FPGEC but I can join NOVA or some other university who accepts foreign grads. There I just have to get admission into Pharm D program and that will take three years to complete since Nova has increased the program duration from 2.5 to 3 yrs for class 2010.

This is exactly what I posted!
You can enroll to the Pharm D program. If not you might consider two years program and become researcher.
I was working with Indian technician. She is graduated pharmacist in her country but she had only 4 years degree. So, she tried to get into Pharm D program in CA. She tried twice and her test score was 90! She didn't get in. So, she choose to become researcher.
I don't think you have to waste your time with NOVA.You already have you degree! You have to try pharm. school first and see what they say. I believe this is what my farmer co-worker did. She sent her documents directly to the pharmacy school.

Well I was trying to tell you that I would try to enroll directly to P5 (fifth year) of Pharm D program in Nova. This is what their international program is all about which is designed for people already having 4 year bachelor degree. Whereas, there is no specific Pharm D program just designed for Int grads in CA. This is a complete 6 years pharm d program compressed into three years.
What did your co worker during her two years program? What was the program all about?

Honestly, I only know that she has 4 years of bachelor degree from India and she is graduated pharmacist. I also know she gathered all possible info in the U.S regarding Pharm. D program. I remember she told us that the only way for her to become a pharmacist in the US is to enroll into the second year of the pharmacy school. So, she should study for 4 more years and thaen graduate as Pharm D. Other options are not available. Like I told you before the pharm school in CA accept foreign credits but they want you to pass exam, so she didn't. Now she enrolled into 2 years program to get her credentials as researcher. It's not a pharmacy school. She decided to change her career because she couldn't pass admission exam twice. This Nova Pharm D program sounds very unreal to me but you probably did your research and know what you're talking about. I was just thinking why other graduates with 4 year bachelor degree don't do this NOVA Pharm D program and trying hard to get admission to U.S pharm school? So, keep me posted.

Well as you know the options are very limited for foreign pharmacy grads in the US. I would say may be the people don't want to relocate to flordia. Yes I did my research and it is for real. You can go to their website and see. Like California, they dont have any specific exam to pass.
Admission requirements
The College of Pharmacy selects students based on previous academic performance, Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) scores (if applicable), written applications and letters of evaluation.
Prior to matriculation, College of Pharmacy applicants must complete and receive a Bachelor of Science degree in pharmacy from a program accredited by the country of residence. All coursework will be evaluated by the college to determine if the student has successfully completed a satisfactory level of physiology, biochemistry, pharmaceutics and pharmacology. Based on this evaluation, students amy be required to take additional courses at NSU in order to complete the Pharm. D. degree. It is recommended that the students have a minimum cumulative 2.75 GPA, on a 4-point scale, on all college-level coursework completed prior to matriculation into the college.

The GRE test score might be required.
The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) is required of all applicants whose native language is not English. The TOEFL, administered worldwide, measures the ability of non-native speakers to understand and use North American English. To be considered for admittance, students must score at least 550 on the paper-based exam, 213 on the computer-based exam, and 79-80 on the internet-based test. TOEFL scores must be no more than two years old at the time of application.

You can receive the TOEFL brochure from the Office of Admissions, by visiting their website or by forwarding a written request to:
TOEFL/TSE Services
P.O. Box 6153
Princeton, NJ 08541-6153
(609) 771-7100
Candidates for admission are responsible for submitting an application form, application fee, a complete set of official transcripts, official foreign course work evaluation if applicable, official TOEFL scores if applicable, and letters of evaluation.

Hey there,
Ali says it's possible to become Pharm.D. But I have my doubts. Even for people who have master and 5 years of studying and FPGEC eligibility will take a min 2 more years to become a Pharm D. Also they want us to get licensed first and then we can enroll into Pharm D program( I'm talking about people with 5 years degree). Ali's info looks too good to me. I just can't believe that Americans can make it that easy for us. I already went through FPGEC and TOEFL, so I have my reasons to think this way. However, it's always an exception...May be you have to ask Ali this pharmacy school contacts. I believe he provided only TOEFL service info.
If you want to consider other than Pharm D possibility, there is university in Boston they have 2-3 years programs for pharmacists and doctors. I think you might like it.
Good luck.

Go to the NOVA website

pharmacy.nova.edu

The International Program educates students to achieve the same outcomes as the entry level Pharm.D. Degree Program. Courses integrate information and build upon one another to provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary to be successful in the profession. Pharmaceutics, Pharmacokinetics, and Nonprescription Therapies courses provide a strong understanding of the principles of drug therapy. The business, human relation, communication, marketing and legal aspects of pharmacy and the health care system are also studied. Courses focus on application of material learned, the use of drugs in the disease process, and developing skills essential to monitoring drug therapy. Students hone their analytical skills with courses in Research Design and Statistics, Pharmacoepidemiology, and Pharmacoeconomics and Drug Literature Evaluation.
Practice experiences in community, hospital, service/learning, and traditional pharmacy settings facilitate real-life application of the material and provide opportunities to integrate information learned. Full-time clerkships and externships facilitate application of drug therapy monitoring with more independence.
The curriculum stresses innovative delivery and assessment methods. Courses will be on campus and the college's clinical sites will be used extensively. All lectures, handouts, reading materials and exams will be in English so as to prepare students for the national practice of pharmacy.
This is approximately 2.5 years (3 years for the students starting in 2010), full-time program requiring a student's full effort. Students are responsible for their own transportation to the experiential sites.
