obtained FPGEC and Michigan pharmacist license, but, do not have any retail experienc
hi, everyone:
i need advices from you. about 3 years ago, I finished internship in an inpatient pharmacy and passed naplex and mpje (J2 visa, have work authorization). then, j2 visa expired, changed to H4 visa. tried to find a sponsor to have H1 visa. but, job market was not good. so, I was not able to find a pharmacist job, then, my son came. now, I moved to atlanta. have green card. the problem is i do not have any retail experience. it seems nobody will hire me as a pharmacist if i am lack of experience. I have pharmacist license in michgan, but have not transfered to GA. could i get an intern job to have some retail experience? what could i do? please help |

Hi ak5420...i did the same thing...now you are a licensed pharmacist ...you cant get an intern license anymore...my advice is to look for a private pharmacy in atlanta area even part time since you are not obligated to work full time and get some experience for like 6 months or a year or even for free i did it work for 3 months for free i was ok with that then i found another job as a part time pharmacist the owner had 5 pharmacies i was filling 5 hours a day here 7 there all over the 5 pharmacies worked for like a year then found a very decent job in a private pharmacy with decent pay too it was a long long way but i didnt have any other option all what people ask for is a pharmacist license the a an experienced pharmacy technician can help you with the rest because every pharmacy has its own system and its own king of customers just dont hit retail like CVS..rite aid now i mean get some experience the try them its ppretty hard on the foirst but after that its way easy....god bless

Hi Guys,
I have the same problem that I got registered pharmacist license in MI 1 yr ago but no retail experience. Now I am staying in CT,looking for any intern position..but no luck.I was told that I can't work as intern with pharmacist license.I don't know what to do as I don't have confidence to work as pharmacist.I am thinking to work as tech for 3-4 months before working as pharmacist. Please give me your suggestions. Thanks, Coogoose 203 |

hi guys, I do not understand you at all. If you have a licence of a pharmacist why you want to work as tech?
Is it really so difficult to find a job with a licence? I thought that there is a shortage of pharmacists in US. Can anyone explain to me what is wrong in my way of thinking?I am in a process of getting my intern licence, I have to pass NAPLEX and MPJE to get full licence. |

hi Isa
it is easy to understand ,taking and passing exams ,like Naplex ,is not a big deal but is not enough to be able to work over the counter if you have no experience ......that's what internships are made for !.....so if you are a licenced pharmacist the only way to get some experience prior to beeing employed as a pharmacist is to spend 3 months as a tech in order to build up the experience you are missing ........but with your background it is very easy to catch up .....If a tech job is not available some volonter work will do .......but 3 months ,full time are enough . god bless |

I am still confused. I thought that it does not matter where you have your internship. Is inpatient and retail pharmacy so different? Can you please give more details? Which pharmacy is better, more interesting, better paid, more difficult? Please answer.
