Hello,
I have just recieved my FPGEC certificate via mail and will apply for intern license at California board of pharmacy. The online documentation says it may take upto 60 days to process the intern license application and also they may need upto 12 weeks to verify the FPGEC certification from NABP. Are these timelines accurate? What is the experience of others who have completed intern license process at California? Please share your information. Also if you get an intern license and are not able to complete 1500 hours before the expiration of the license do you get an extension as with the H1-B quota exhausted, the earliest chance of paid internship is in October 2006 for retail pharmacies. Thank you, HopefulInSD |

yes, applying for an intern license in CA does take that long.
thats why you have to time your intern license application with that of the when you can actually start working your hours as intern. the license has 2 yrs validity upon issuance to which you need to submit your Naplex and CPJE scores before it expires. if it expires, you're demoted to a position below an intern, as so is your pay. BUT, since you are applying without an SSN yet coz you mentioned you need H1b, you can apply for the license as early as now coz they'll instead issue a deficiency letter stating that you qualify but lacking an SSN. this letter is valid for 12 mos and extendable by request until you give the SSN on Oct 2006, then they will issue the license. this deficiency letter is also important and is part of the requirements for applying for the H1b... employers also look for this document in their hiring process. so better have it ready. good luck |

Thanks lawu2002, I will apply to the board this week to kickstart the process as it will easily take till January 2006 to recieve the deficiency letter which will be useful for employers to apply for H1-B in April 2006 (if with luck is willing to start the sponsorship process so early).
Did you recieve your intern license from California board, if yes how long did it take? Does anybody have any tips on the university hospitals or non-profit healthcare companies in California on whether they would sponsor an H1-B for pharmacist intern? Thank you, HopefulInSD |
