Hello, pharmacists!
I'm a sophomore in high school and I'm preparing a research paper on potential career choices. I'm looking for any pharmacists who have spent at least ten years in the pharmacy field to answer some questions for me. I appreciate any replies; I've included the questions below. If you care to help me out, please include your name, state where you practice now, and as detailed answers as you can give. Thanks so much for your help!!

1. When you first began your career, what was the average starting salary?

2. What are the benefits you recieve in this career? (i.e., insurance or health coverage)

3. What prompted you to a career in pharmacy?

4. Personally, what is the pathway you followed to get to your current status (i.e., college, internship, first job, etc.)

5. Were you forced to make any sacrifices in your personal life for this career?

6. What sort of environment do you work in?

7. Describe any retirement decisions or concerns. Usually, when can pharmacists retire?

8. How has your career changed from when you first started out to now?

9. What personal qualities do you feel are necessary for all pharmacists?

10. What is the job outlook for pharmacists? How do you predict this outlook to be in five years?

11. Is a certain degree required for this job? I've heard of a "PharmD." Can you explain this?

12. What does it mean to become a licensed pharmacist? How does one obtain his/her license?

13. What classes are recommended for aspiring pharmacists in college?

14. Describe a typical work day. Explain routines, daily tasks, or responsibilities you must carry out.

15. What is your favorite part of your job? Your least favorite?

16. What is the relationship between doctors and pharmacists?

17. What can be challenging in pharmacy?

18. Are there any unusual hours, scheduling, or conditions for pharmacists, both currently or as a new grad?

19. What are the greatest personal rewards in this career?

20. Are there any possible dangers in this career?

21. If you could give any advice to someone starting a career in pharmacy, what would it be?

22. How long did you attend college before becoming a pharmacist? How long after school have you been in the pharmacy field?

Dear Emily,

Thanks for your interest in pharmaceutical field.. I think this is not the right forum for your quarries.. I'm sure there will be people in this forum who has 10 Yrs of experience... but not in USA as most of the people posting in this forum are foreign pharmacist and trying get regd in USA to practice.
