HI...
Do we have to apply for the pharmacist intern license immediately after we get the FPGEC....that is...if we want to take a break, can we apply for an intern license say 2 or 3 years after we get the FPGEC? I am in California. The CA board of pharmacy website doesn't mention anything in this regard. All it states is that after we get the intern license, we have to finish the internship in two years since they don't allow intern license extensions. Please help....Thanks! |

Hi,Shweta72,
The way I understand it is that you can register any time after gettiing the FPGEC cert and satisfying all the other requirements of the Board necessary for Intern license and it is valid for certain time. After expiration you would have to renew again ( if they allow it ). California allows 4 attemps at NAPLEX and after that 1 more on completion of remedial courses as approved by the board....... I think your best option is to register only after the break you want, as 2 years is a long time to waste your intern registration.......only thing to remember is that although there is no expiry for FPGEC now, rules may change in 2-3 years and you run the risk of having to satisfy additional requirements?.......maybe longer intern hours?......who knows? Would you be able to provide info on opportunities in CA.....as I am interested to come there, just cleared the Dec 06 FPGEE, waiting for my certificate good luck ! |

Hi Rxready and Pharmjay...
I am also waiting for my FPGEC. However, I was planning to take a break now before applying for an intern license. Once you apply for the license, you have to finish the internship in two years. The CA board no longer extends these licenses beyond two years. Since I am planning to pursue this later, I haven't yet started exploring internship opportunities. My only concern is if the CA board would be willing to give me an intern license a couple of years from now! Will let you know if I come across any opportunites..... |
