Internship during OPT
Hi all member of this forum,
I am new in this forum. Thank you for your a lot of important information for becoming the foreign pharmacist in the US. But now I want to hear from the member of this forum about my idea. I want to be a pharmacist in the US, but everybody knows it is really difficult to find a sponsor for getting the working visa called H1B. Then now I am thinking that I enter the pharmacy technician course of the US once that have an internship program at retail pharmacy as a pharmacy technician. Of course my purpose is to become a pharmacist but not technician. However, when I perform my internship at programmed retail pharmacy in that school as a student of the pharm tech program, I hope I could ask the pharmacy whether I can continue as an internship during OPT but not tech if I could get the certificate of FPGEC. Its means that I have to clear the all test which include FPGEE and TOEFL-iBT during/before OPT after finish the course of the pharmacy tech course. Then if I could good performance at the pharmacy as an intern which introduced me during pharm tech program, I think I can ask to apply my H1B before my OPT are finished. How do you think my idea the way to find a H1B visa sponsor ? Of course, if I have an enough money to enroll the Pharm.D. Program. But as you know its tuition is quite expensive. But Pharm tech program is not so expensive and the program in its self is only one to two years. Again the might provide the student 1 year OPT after perform the program. If you have a good idea or the difficulty of my idea, please suggest me in this forum to share the information among the members. Thank you. I am sorry to tell the candidate of that pharm tech school. Now I think Benjamin Franklin Institute of Technology- Pharmacy technician program at Boston, MA. , http://www.bfit.edu/academics/pharmacy.php . They have an internship program at CVS pharmacy a once a week in their Curriculum in Boston. They said that if I want to work during semester, they can ask to CVS for my work as an extra course during student. Again, that school can ask to CVS that I work as OTP student in the same place or related area after I performed the course. If I choose this the way to get sponsor for my H1B, is it still difficult to ask the sponsorship yet? I would like to hear any advice for my idea. I feel uneasy whether CVS may provide a chance to work as an intern or not after OPT. Thank you for your reply. Last edited by kseki : 04-24-2006 at 06:11 AM. Reason: Automerged post |

Hi, I am sorry to hear that you do not have eligible to apply for FPGEE. But unfortunately, I think it is impossble to become pharm tech as a H1B visa holder, because to get the pharm tech postion does not need the the BS degree. They can be pharm tech after high school graduation soon. Maybe US imigration does not permit to provide H1B to the foreign pharm tech. However, I mean that if I perform internship program at CVS as a pharm tech program student once a week and perform internship during OPT after I passed all exam which NABP requires for FPGEC, can I ask my H1B sponsorship to CVS? Someone said CVS does not become a H1B sponsor for internship. How do you think my idea to find H1B sponsor in my future? |

Kseki,
This is my concern. The pharmacy technician program is a certificate program (one year full time) not degree plan. Can you get OPT from a certificate program? I have doubt about it. Please double check with the college first. You should ask international officers from the college about OPT. You should make sure they know about OPT. Some colleges don't qualify to issue OPT from USCIS. If you can get FPGEC before your F1 from Pharm Tech expire, you should have more chance to get H1B from the company. Let me know if you have questions and other suggestions. Regards, Kit |

Hi Kit,
Thank you for your reply. Yes, that program provides the certificate degree, because this is only one year program. As you suggested me, I have already confirmed the stuff of the international office of the college which I mentioned above and they said that they can issue OPT for the student who performed the program of Again, they can negotiate to get the part time job to CVS from 2nd semester and during OPT. Of course I am not sure you can get the OPT from other college. However, they said me that I can not transfer to the Pharm.D. program at this point, because this program is curriculumed for only the one who want to be a pharmacy technician. Kse |
